Safety of a Cermac Heater - Advise Please
Yahoo Message Number: 87516
Happy Holidays to the LDers!  I am usually a reader not a poster but while searching the LD club site on heaters I found post ##85599 (written by Andy).

This post refers to safety issues regarding Kozy World ceramic heaters.  Coincenently I'm camping this week in 20 degree weather and using a Kozy-World disc ceramic heater.  It is (1500w) electric.

While the heater is doing a great job and I really like it; after reading the post I'm concerned Andy is aware of a safety issue and I'm not properly doing something to offset the risk.  Since it is electric would I be correct in saying the issue is one of heat getting up against something flamable?

By the way, as you know there is a wealth of information in the archives and so many of you have "been there and done that".  Andy I think you could open your own business to add extras to LDs on the after market.

Thank you Brent

Brent, I don't think Andy was talking about an electric heater, but rather the Kozy World infrared heater (propane powered, no electric) that we use.
However, we've had absolutely no problems with ours, and use it a LOT as we're in New Mexico where it's been COLD!  We do keep two windows cracked: one downstairs and the upstairs ceiling vent over the bed.
I would NOT leave it on at night while we were sleeping, or when we were gone from the rig.  But while we are there and can supervise it, it sure warms up our rig very nicely.
I wouldn't have any problems recommending this heater to anyone regardless of Andy's concerns.  As long as you provide adequate ventilation (which you have to do with a catalytic heater, too), it's not a problem.

Thank you Linda, that's what I thought too - but then also thought I would check. Glad the heater works for you - Happy new year.

Linda is right: my post referred only to propane heaters. There are no carbon monoxide emissions from electric heaters--ceramic or otherwise--so as long as you observe normal precautions such as keeping the heater away from fabric surfaces, there shouldn't be any significant risk.
