Dash radio and speakers -

Would appreciate any thoughts of possibility of connecting a wall mount radio to the coach speakers - thus alimenting the dash radio connection to those speakers - am sure can program the dash radio to not use those, but then they are of no use to us as we don't use the dash radio when parked - I do all the driving and Jim and his buddy Cricket have discovered the sofa is a great place to back seat drive, but they fall asleep rather quickly due to Starr's agile ability to softly and quietly wander down the highways - once they drift off I cannot listen to the XM radio as Jim says it is louder in the coach area. Ear plugs are out of the question for Jim to block out with - Thus, if could only have the dash radio play in cab area then another 12v radio in the coach for other times to us would be neat - Any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated as I don't want to go to a auto electronics place without some ideas in hand - - I've looked through the archives and not found any info, but it could be there just did not sniff it out - Thanks, Virginia at home in Texas for holidays Starr & Midnight Roadie '07 Red 26.5RB/'07 Black Matrix

Virginia,
At least on the radio on our 2001 radio, you can move the sound completely up to the front, and even completely to the driver's side using the volume control and the lever behind it.  I would not think much sound would get to the rear if you have it on the driver's side in the front (unless you really have it loud).

Yea - I have not sat down with manual to adjust the fade - we just got to thinking having another radio in the coach area would be a nice feature as when parked we don't use the dash radio and once move the sound forward would never adjust and coach speakers will not be used = thus the idea of another radio installed -

Oh, yea and when I'm driving a long distance I do like my music to have a strong forte :o)

Barrty hit the nail on the head. Read your radio's manual, and you'll find that you can adjust the sound balance between front and rear as you please. :-)

Virginia,

The radio in our '03 MB has what is called a "Fade" adjustment.
This allows one to adjust the sound so that it all comes out in the cab speakers only with nothing in the coach area, balanced between the cab and the coach, or all in the coach area with nothing in the cab area.  We often use this adjustment if someone wants quiet or wants to watch a videotape back in the coach area while we are underway. In our case, I think you press the "sound" button and scroll thru menus to get to "fade."

Have a look at the instruction book which came with your radio or just try expeimenting with its menus.  I would imagine that your radio has a similar fade adjustment.

Of course if you wanted, you could connect the rear coach speakers to a different radio/ sound source if you wanted.
One of Andy Baird's pet peeves (and mine too) is the confusing array of knobs and menus on modern day car radios.

In the mid-bath, speakers are in the cab area and rear lounge area.
We would like to have some speaker in the dinette. We would probably listen more frequently while stopped if we had speakers there.

In my last motorhome I had an earphone jack installed and a switch that turned off all speakers. My wife likes to read when we travel, so I could rock out with the earphones and she could read in peace. Our new model, pick up in Feb., has a remote control for the dash radio making it easier to use in the coach. I will still consider a switch so she can read on the road. It was not expensive as I recall. Hope this helps.

Here is a setup we used for our last crosscountry trip. We had a 110V inverter for small items (800W). We took our BOSE table radio from the house and set it on non skid mat on the kitchen counter. It came with a remote control. The driver could use it for radio or CD listening and turn it off/on/up/down or change stations all by holding the remote facing toward the radio.
