LP Gas Leak Detector Failure

The wife called me outside and said what's that awful beeping coming from the LD?
We went inside and determined it was the LP Gas Leak Detector beeping constantly.

The detector had no green lite on (operating), no red lite on (leak detected) and no yellow lite on (low battery).

So, no lights on the detector (no problem with the coach batteries voltage level).

Tried to mute it with the mute button (a minute without that high pitched beeping would have been nice), but it wouldn't mute.
Thought maybe my big fingers weren't getting the mute button far enough in, so tried to push on it with a flat blade screwdriver.
It went in, and stayed in (recessed below the level of the front panel of the detector), but still did not mute.

Removed the detector and found the power fuse.  Pulled the fuse and finally stilled the wailing monster.  Reinstalled the fuse and detector returned to previous condition:  No lites and constant beeping.
So, it looks like the detector has failed.  Thought I would check here to see if anybody else has already replaced one of these, and if so, is there as source other than the factory.

Also, what was the general cost for the replacement.
I'm open for any suggestions, but it looks like it just failed (I did shut off the LP gas at the tank, and had all the windows open for a good couple of hours, and it still beeped on an on).

The Propane detectors are notorious for going bad.  I just ordered a replacement CCI detector from www.rvshop.com.  It was still over $60 shipped.  I ordered a model 7770.231.  I haven't installed it yet.

Are these pretty simple to hook up and are they pretty universal when it comes to different vintages of RV's? Looks like I need to replace mine as well, it always seems to want to go off. Actually, I don't have any documentation on mine... It just has a setting of 1 2 3 and I'm not quite sure of where the setting needs to be. Also the green ld light is bright sometimes and very dim at other times. It is located on the floor level under my refrigerator.
Thanks for the responses regarding my so called hinged shelf. You all are always so helpful and chocked with wonderful comments and ideas... Happy Holidays!

Yes and yes. Any propane detector will work in any rig, as far as I know. It's a simple two-wire 12VDC hookup, connected with wire nuts.
You can do the swap in five minutes with no tools other than a screwdriver to unmount the detector from the wall. Just make sure you match the polarity (color coding) of the wires.

Does this detector also sense carbon monoxide? The reason I ask is that one evening I stayed at a Walmart in Colorado because of a very early appointment nearby. When parking, I noticed another much older rig in the lot which was very similar to Cousin Eddie's rig in Christmas Vacation. Some time after we arrived "Cousin Eddie" left and we went to bed about 11pm.
About 12:30 the LP detector went off. I reset it and went back to bed.
That process occurred two more times. It was then I realized I was hearing a TV blaring close by. I opened the cab curtains and there was "Cousin Eddie's" rig bumper-to-bumper with my LD. I'm guessing he had an A/C TV because his generator was running. I then moved my LD three rows away and had no more problems.

"Does this [L.P. gas] detector also sense carbon monoxide?"

Nope, not as far as I know. It's only sensitive to hydrocarbons--propane, butane, methane, alcohol, etc.
Even if it could detect carbon monoxide, CO is lighter than air, so a detector mounted near the floor would be unlikely to encounter much CO. That's why the CO detector is on the ceiling.
