National RV files Chap 11 Bankruptcy

While we ruminate about quality control with Ed's departure, LD sure has the best business plan with custom orders in light of market conditions.  With the recent announcement of National RV's bankruptcy (resulting in the termination of 600 employees at its Perris, CA plant), one can only surmise what this trend may portend.  We previously owned a National RV (2001 Tradewinds) - it was of high quality for a comparable DP. The Eecember 2007 FMCA Mag. features the National RV "Pacifica."  We can all feel for the consumers who purchased this $250k+ RV and now have no warranty coverage (except as unsecured creditors in Chap 11) and face marked depreciation due to the company's demise. Makes you wonder what big name RV manufacturer is next???

Well these are troubled times. I think LD and Steve just have to hold the line as best as they can. I would not change what works to quickly. I personally like to get a real person on the phone instead of an assinine recording.

As far as big name RV manufactures, I think they all, big or small are under the gun.

Coachmen is not doing very well either. Their stock is down near $5 and if it falls below $5, this usually means the market is saying, the company won't make it, as it now is organized. National, was around 5 bucks for a while and then fell further and was delisted (taken off the NYSE). So it was clear for a while that National was iffy. One advantage of being private (like Newmar), is that it's much more difficult, for people get this kind of financial info. It can be kind of a slippery slope, your stock is not doing well, fewer people buy your product, banks are less likely to loan money, or may reduce your line of credit and typically borrowing costs more, because a higher interest rate is paid. I guess this is some of the dubiousness of Wall Street, Andy was talking about, when I posted about the financials of Ford Motor. But dubious or not, this often happens.
