Exterior storage in 23.5FD questions December 01, 2007, 02:22:04 pm Yahoo Message Number: 86618My wife and I are wannabes who will visit the factory later this month. We're especially interested in the 23.5 (soon to be 24 I guess) Front Dinette. I see that it has two exterior storage areas. I haven't found anywhere (including an archive search here) the dimensions or even approximate size of those areas. Can any owners help us out with an idea of whether one of those spots will take folding chairs? I have read about folks who store "big" items like that in the over-the-cab bed when traveling, or other inside locations. But how much room is there "outside"? Thanks for any help you've got!
Re: Exterior storage in 23.5FD questions Reply #1 – December 01, 2007, 03:26:11 pm Yahoo Message Number: 86620Our 2005 23.5 FL model has the following exterior storage dimensions: the long compartment is approximately 39" long, 17" deep and 12" high, and the connecting compartment toward the front is about 24" wide, 23" high and 20.5" deep, but it also has an additional space at the upper part of that compartment that is about 23" wide, 10.5" high and 11.5" deep--just about the perfect size for storing a Weber "Go Anywhere" barbecue. We carry our lawn chairs in the shower, and added a Stowaway 2 cargo carrier, which provides a nice amount of extra space. (Kay)

Re: Exterior storage in 23.5FD questions Reply #3 – December 01, 2007, 04:29:22 pm Yahoo Message Number: 86624Thanks so much to Kay and to Glen. Such quick and helpful responses! To me it seems that one of the big side benefits of owning an LD is becoming part of this "family" of people quick to reach out in friendship and help. We look forward to the time when we have gone from "wannabes" to "gonnabes" ... and especially to "it's sitting next to the house!"
Re: Exterior storage in 23.5FD questions Reply #4 – December 01, 2007, 05:03:20 pm Yahoo Message Number: 86626We are in the waiting process for a 23.5 FD, due in Feb. The outside storage would hold the kind of patio chairs that fold into a bag but not those that fold flat. We plan to carry chairs on the ladder. Camping world has some decent carrier options, one that locks. I think our golf clubs will be sleeping with us!! Good LuckBoneheadCheck out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. Same dimensions on outside as the FL above. I added a "shelf" in the front compartment large enough to hold my electrical cords, hose, and a couple of flat tools. Having the FD we also have a nice storage compartment under the front seat of the dinette. We bought an attachment to the outside ladder that we can hook our outside chairs to (got it at camping world). As others have said, many things can also be stored in the shower when traveling.Rick Lechner '04 23.5 FD

We have a 2007 23.5 FD and the outside storage, though not spacious, is sufficient to carry what we need. Currently there are three folding camp chairs, a folding table, the necessary hoses and power cords, a file boxed size plastic container with miscellaneous stuff, a small propane grill, leveling blocks and wheel chocks. There's room left over for soccer balls and a few odds and ends. The inside storage is quite good and even on a week long trip there's no problem hauling what we need. We haven't tried the golf clubs yet but I think the shower is the only place they'll fit. As pointed out by others, you have other options to get more space if you need it. Since we carry bikes on the back and don't tow, we make do with what we have. I don't think regular folding chairs (the ones that collapse in half) are going to fit in the storage compartments. You could take one along and try.Good luck.andy
