Progressive Surge Protector

I just finished installing a Progressive Industries surge protecter, model EMS-HW30C in our 2001 RB.  I must say I am very impressed with the unit so far.  It turns the power off if the voltage is

132V (with override possible), and has 35,000A surge protection.
The remote indicator shows the voltage, frequency, and current coming into the LD, and error codes indicating any problem, including need to replace the surge protection.
For the 2001 RB, the installation was very easy.  (I can't speak for other models.)  After partially disassembling the circuit box and converter and looking further into installing after the transfer switch as originally planned, I took a much easier path and installed it for shore power only.

In the 2001 RB, the shore power cord is tied to the LD wiring in a junction box under the bottom closet drawer beside the water pump.
By replacing this junction box with the surge protector box, I was able to install with no additional wiring, and not even having to strip any wires.  It was just a matter of undoing the quick connectors, tying the wires together, removing the junction box, and putting the wires into the surge protector box.  VERY EASY.

(Talk about LD building well, the metal junction box, which only serves to connect these two wires together, was screwed to the floor with 4 long screws.  The screw-type quick connectors were screwed on and taped with lots of electrical tape as well.)

For anyone considering a surge protector, I can recommend this one based on what I have seen.  (I'm installing one after 5 years as part of the preparation for a Central America trip.)

I installed a Progressive Industries Surge Protector earlier this year, also directly from shore power.
I¹m not sure what the new LDs come with for receiving shore power, but I also installed a Marinco ParkPower Conversion Kit prior to the Surge Protector:

It keeps out all the creepy crawlers, cold air and allows me to remove my electrical cable and stow it, rather than jamming it in that small hole.

Neil,

How is the Progressive unit working?
The new units have the plug-in cord like you installed.  Actually, I am happy to have the attached cord, so I can just pull out as much as I need.  As far as I know, the creepy crawlers and cold air can only come into the compartment.  The entrance of the cord looked pretty well sealed.

Lazy Daze has been using Marinco power fittings for at least five years, so your rig is now up to date! :-)

I¹m quite impressed with my Progressive Industries EMS. It was the first improvement I made when I got my LD. I got the LC-HW-30 unit. This unit has the display on the unit itself, not a remote display. The LC-HW-30 does have the option of adding a remote display.
I had my LD at a friend¹s house and hooked up to his garage power and got an E-2 (Open Ground) Error. The EMS didn¹t let the power pass. He didn¹t even know he had this electrical error in his garage.

Good product and I highly recommend it!

Barry--
I have a 2004 26.5 RB and just purchased the same Progressive unit to be installed.  How and where did you install the remote display?  Do you think someone with a very limited knowledge of electricity and minimal handyman skills, but one able to read and follow instructions carefully, could install the unit and remote display?  Thanks--Ted
