Mattress topper for 23.5 Twin-king

My wife and I just purchased a 2001 23.5 twin-king, and have been sleeping on the sofas as twin beds. The hi density foam on the standard sofa is supportive but too hard, great for sitting and relaxing but not for sleeping. We are trying to find something that will give us some more softness, but not a lot of bulk, hopefully something that we can store above on the overhead bed area. We cannot sleep on the overhead bed because of our age and like the twin king area. All comments would be deeply appreciated. Thanks so much, Glen

Glen,
I would suggest you buy a sheet of the egg crate foam pad and cut it to fit the twin size beds.  That should be somewhat softer than the hi density foam sofa seats.  They could be easily stored on the overhead bed area.

Good luck.

I bought a 1-1/2" thick memory foam pad at overstock.com, and have been very happy with it. You can roll it up and throw it in the overhead bunk area, or you can leave it on the bed as I do, and cover the whole thing with a blanket, quilt, or other covering that matches the upholstery. A twin-size pad is just about perfect, and makes a wonderfully comfortable bed at night.
If you're really tender, go for the 2" thickness...but that is harder to roll up and dispose of during the day.

--- I wanted a memory foam (aka "viscoelastic foam") topper for the couch for the times when I nedd to "sleep downstairs" because I don't feel like climbing up and down the ladder three or four times a night to take the dog out to piddle!
Sleep Warehouse (http://www.sleepwarehouse.com/) is the company I dealt with for a memory foam topper cut to my specs; they offer high-quality products, good prices, conscientious customer service, and free shipping.  Their website is very informative; you'll learn quite a bit about "viscoelastic foam"!
If you buy a standard-sized topper (2" would be the minimum thickness, IMO), I suggest that you also get the separately-available mattress cover; memory foam is a somewhat sticky and can attract bits and pieces of whatever. Memory foam is also a bit heavy, but it does roll up and "compress" reasonably well; I store the rolled-up mattress on the upper bunk. Memory foam also retains body heat; this can be good if one is a "cold" sleeper, but it can get a bit warm for some folks.

One ordinary foam mattress topper is NOT enuff.  Get a double thick foam pad at WalMart - then put the ordinary mattress topper on top of that.  Even my dog would rather sleep on the foam pad than on that rock hard twin mattress.

I suppose this is one of those subjects where you're likely to get different answers. Here's mine:
A Consumer Reports type study, can't remember where I read it, determined that about 1.5 to 2" of memory foam (note, this is *not* standard, cheap polyfoam) is adequate to comfortably support the body. More than 2" is pretty much wasted.
Memory foam is dense and heavier than polyfoam. So we bought two 2" twin size toppers at Costco. These come with a nice fabric cover. Together, they cover the two couches when made into a king size bed, or just one can be used on one side if the whole king bed isn't needed. Since there's two of them, they are relatively easy to fold into thirds and easily fit on the overhead bed.

They are every bit as comfortable as our beds at home.

We have a WONDERFUL 23.5 TK we were lucky enough to buy from a terrific couple in NM last July. Everything is fantastic about the LD and it is a dream BUT we soon decided the king bed could be softer on long trips. Since we own aTempurpedic bed and love it, we purchased from Macy's on sale the very similiar memory foam TWIN (2 of them) 3 inch matttress pads. They even have removable washable covers. Cost about $55 on sale. Then I took a padded king sized mattress cover from our home and the result is a very comfortable bed! It only takes 5 minutes for both of us to make it up and take it down. We store the roll-up mats and all bedding above the bed cabinets. I would recommend these instead of those egg crate things since those are not easily stored, rolled, etc. We have owned those before for the house and guests. These new ones are the best choice for our TK.
This is our first time to join discussions and anyone not owning their own LD----keep trying! And be ready to jump when you find the right one. Ours is 2005 and only had 10,800 miles when we bought it. The owners had it in NEW condition and we are so lucky!

So, go get the toppers I mentioned. You won't be sorry!
