Hello, I am looking to purchase a used lazy daze, preferrably a 23.5 length.
Thanks to this group, I was able to back out of the purchase of a 26.5 2002 RB in greater Seattle area.  I am not sure I can afford a newer lazy daze RV so would like to get the opinion of those who own a LD that is 1995 or older.

Some questions: what number owner? (first, second, third?) what type of engine (ford or chev)...any engine problems? Transmission problems? how much money did you have to put into the engine after you purchased it? Despite the RV being a LD, the engine is still american made and i can't imagine anyone buying a used ford/ chev truck older than 1996. any fixes to the interior? how much money did you spend on fixes to the interior (not including upgrades) did you put solar panels on after you purchased?  easy? any water leaks? any issues with electricals...converter, etc. any issue with appliances? any other information you can provide.
 I am a 30 year old female and will be driving and taking care of the RV myself.  needless to say, i do not know much about motors or fixing anything electrical.

Good to hear you were able to back out of the purchase.  I'm quite familiar with that "Seattle" LD.

Here are my comments on our 1989 22' RL

what number owner? (first, second, third?) 3rd

what type of engine (ford or chev)...any engine problems? Chev 350 [5.7L].  Burns a little oil, but has 107,000 miles on it.

Transmission problems?  None
 how much money did you have to put into the engine after you purchased it?

Alternator, fix some oil leaks, right exhaust manifold. any fixes to the interior? Replaced cab seats as they were too soft for us.

how much money did you spend on fixes to the interior (not including upgrades)

$1000

did you put solar panels on after you purchased? easy?  No
 any water leaks?  Have since discovered a leak in front overhead cab and some water damage in rear due to the fact that whoever replaced a damaged rear window didn't do it right.  Still trying to decide if I want to have factory fix problem or not due to age of unit.

Any issues with electricals...converter, etc.  None.
 any issue with appliances?  #2 owner replaced the frig with a Norcold.
Otherwise, everything else is original.

 I send you a long, extensive email of my personal experience directly to your email address.

Most the information on pre-purchase inspections are logged in previous posts.  Also there is an extensive pre-purchase check list that I believe Andy posted in the files section.  I forwarded John and Cheryl's original post after you posted your "purchase" and never heard from you again.  I see you were busy getting out of it.  Good Job!

Sony, you and any other potential purchasers owe John W a debt of gratitude for spending his time and money to fly out to Seattle and ispect that rig. Way to go John!
 This group has proved to be a great resource for me. I can't tell you how much I've appreciated the knowledge and experience you've all been willing to share. And the entertainment value too!;-)

IOW, if you can't imagine anyone buying a Ford or Chevy truck "older than 1996", why would you even be interested in a 1995 or older model?

I agree that there is incongruity with the statement as well!! As an owner of a 1993 RB purchased only 2 years ago, age is not the issue.
The issue is how well the unit has been maintained.  As a long time DIY mechanic (have never taken a car into the shop and I am 54 yrs old), just because something was made at a certain time doesn't automatically make it no longer good or useful.  My rig is in great shape mechanically all around and looks fantastic.  Most people think it is only a few years old.  In closing, if I thought this way, I would never have any classic Fords or Chevys in my stable.

Transmission problems? None

did you put solar panels on after you purchased? easy? No

any water leaks? None

Any issues with electricals...converter, etc.  None to speak of I have to replace two light switches, not a big deal
 any issue with appliances? None all work great, I did replace the air conditioner. Old one just wasn't putting out the cold air.
 I would take this rig anywhere. The past two owners treated is like a baby, my only problem is trying to keep it up as well as they did.

 I'm also not the mechanical type.  Partly for that reason I chose to buy a 23.5' LD with a V10 engine & 4R100 transmission.  That translates to a 1998 model year for the 23.5 footers.  If your budget is around the price of the now infamous "Seattle" '02 RB, you might want to consider targeting something in the '98-'99 range.
 Threads beginning with Msg# 53304 & 84442 have more to say about the age vs budget question.  I agree that condition is more important than age or mileage.  Be sure to check the Files section here and read the info in the buying & selling folder.

I second that John and Steve.  I have never met either of you but read all your comments along with the others from the group.  I feel like we all know each other as distant relatives!  I have used this site extensively for the research before finding my 93RB.  I have followed many of the suggestions and made many of my own upgrades.  I purchased Eureka from Andy and just follow along.

When I saw that Seattle Unit come up.  Even though I already owned mine, I ran a carfax which was clean; then checked for airfares for a cheap flight out.  Then I called the seller (dealer) and found him to be very evasive and unknowledgable when asked specifics so I quickly passed.  I read that John and Cheryl were making the trip so I waited for their report.  It was as I suspected.
 Several days later, Sony posts the purchase, obviously, she must have missed your report.

Ford 460 V8.  No problems.

 Nothing.  In the spring it will get a regular "spring" service: oil, filters, lub etc.  I will also replace the shocks: regular not Bilstiens

Why not?  Engine life is based on use and maintenance.  My engine has had all appropriate maintenance and synthetic oil for at least the last 10 years.  It purrs.

Nothing. Everything works OK.  The roller blinds are loose but I will replace them with cafe curtains plus Roman blinds for reasons of style not usefulness.  The rollers can be tightened if I liked them.

Came with two already installed.  If it hadn't I would have had them installed.

No.  It doesn't have an inverter: I will install one in the spring.
It also needs a new TV.  I have decided on a 19" LCD.

Dash air needed to be re-charged.  The PO took care of that before purchase.

I'm a solo female tooand was very concerned about condition and reliability. I'm a mechanical and electrical doofus.  I don't expect to do anything mechanical other than checking fluids.  As for electrical, I intend to learn how to do some basic checking and to learn something about the electrical systems.

My maintenance plan is to take it to an RV dealer and a Ford dealer in the spring and again in the fall.  (more frequently for oil changes etc if mileage requires it) I will keep her clean, watch the fluids (including the batteries) and take care of interior decor.

I would take Lazy Lady anywhere.

I recommend you wait until a rig in excellent condition comes along.  Give bonus points for full maintenance records.  It's taken me nearly two years to find the one for me and even at that I had to compromise on the floorplan.  As a side note about that, I wanted a MB but ended up with a RB.  I'm kinda getting to be happy about that.

Sorry, Lazy Lady is a 1993.
 I didn't want anything older than 1993 because 1993 was the first year of the new style front end of the Ford E350 chassis which remained the same until 2007. My rig looks, mostly, identical to the new ones.

We just took our 07 on her maiden run...went to San Elijo State Beach in San Diego County and it was great (but the fire tinged hillsides were a grim reminder of the power of wind and fire).  Tide was up and lots of surfers...Saw a tan and white there and asked its age (something always risky with a woman) and was very surprised she was a  79!  She looked so much like us... so young, we thought either he was lying about the girl or she had had a face lift!  Amazing, I hope I look that good thirty years from now! Deb
