Solar Controller on Sale November 07, 2007, 12:54:39 pm Yahoo Message Number: 85666Here's a heads-up for anyone thinking of replacing their older solar controller with the new HPV-22B. AM Solar http://amsolar.com/ has them on sale now for $212.00 (regular price $265.00) and the adapter plate to provide a proper fit in the hole for the RV30S controller that many of us now have is $10.00. I don't know how long the sale will run. I didn't see the sale price on the Web site but it was offered when I called them at 541-726-1091.MontiMonument, CO

This MPPT is rated 25 amps and I've had good service from mine for the past 8 years. (I previously had it installed in a motorglider, but put a smaller unit in that and transferred the 2000e to Yonder.bumper

I'm impressed (but then it's easy to impress me).Larry
Re: Solar Controller on Sale Reply #4 – November 07, 2007, 07:23:46 pm Yahoo Message Number: 85687Larry,A privilege to join your club, I'm easily impressed too. I've owned a motorglider and now a self-launch glider (Schleicher ASH26E). Both are often outfitted with solar panels (factory option). In use, the self-launch maybe runs the engine for 6 to 10 minutes and then shuts down in lift. Follows a multi-hour soaring flight with no engine run. So the solar helps keep the battery up by providing most of the power needed to run all the avionics (soaring computer, Garmin 396 with XM weather and music, etc, etc). Since the room for PV panels, which don't go on the wing because of aerodynamic concerns (wing profile is often maintained to within .002") there only room for them on the engine bay doors. Thus a MPPT charge controller is important.bumper

May be the wing coating of the future. http://www.nanosolar.com/>Someday we may be able to turn the external shell of our LDs into solar panels.I sure hope this isn't another one of the 'miracles of the future' that I wasted so much of my youth reading about in Popular Mechanics.Larry Dreaming about solar-powered flight (or any form of flight that doesn't require going through security)

Also is it a simple matter of just moving wires from one unit to the other? The HPV-22B has slightly different dimensions than the RV-30S. As I recall, I had to make the cutout hole a little taller. I believe I also had to drill at least a couple of screw holes to mount the adapter plate. Other than the hole modification, it was straightforward.Art
