Tire life question May 22, 2006, 11:13:30 am Yahoo Message Number: 67004With all of the discussion on replacing tires I was wondering what kind of mileage users are getting on their LD and what they use as a guide of tread wear to replace. I am aware of a 3/16' tread remaining being used maybe even a law in California. On cars I usually replace at about '' tread depth remaining and get 50,000 to 60,000 miles on a car but are wondering what to expect on our 26 MB.Richard Magruder in HMAWAY 26' MB[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

For *most* people driving an RV, they'll have to buy new tires based on the age of the tire long before they ever have to replace them based on tread depth.Linda Hylton2004 Red 23.5' TK http://map.datastormusers.com/user1.cfm?user=1167 http://earl-linda.blogspot.com/

These were on the rear of our 2000 MB and looking at just the thread, I would guess we could have squeezed another 10K or so out of them. The fronts were replaced much earlier due to delaying our first alignment as I have stated in privious posts.Rich Gort 2000 MBBirch Bay, WA

For passenger car/truck tires, the "replacement depth" is 2/32"; for an over-10000 pounds vehicle, the replacement depth is 4/32". (Yes, 1/16" and 1/8", but tread depth measurement tools are marked in 1/32" increments.)As Linda said, it's far more likely that an RV's tires will "age out" before the tread wears to an unsafe level (unless the RVer is on the go enough to wear out the tread before the "sidewall life" of the tire is reached.) Other factors which affect tire tread (and sidewall) life are overloading, underinflation, and *mis-alignment*; this last causes the tread to wear unevenly (to say nothing of contributing to poor handling and control).Joan
