Is there a preferable tow system for a Jeep? Also, weight question
Yahoo Message Number: 66994
Hello, we purchased a Jeep to take with us when we would like to take off in the mountains.  Our question is, after looking at a myriad of tow set-ups, is there a preferable one for the Jeep?

Also, we have electric levelers on the back of the LD.  We are not sure if we really want them for 1) what they provide, 2) free up weight on the unit as we will be towing the Jeep.  What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks for your help, CK

Any tow set-up from the major manufacturers should be good for your application.  Roadmaster All Terrain Tow Bars are a little more convenient if you unhook on unlevel ground.  They supposedly don't bind if your towed vehicle is not level and is easier to disconnect.

We tow a Jeep Cherokee with a Roadmaster Falcon 2 and haven't had a problem disconnecting.  Of course we try to find the most level spot to unhook.

What kind of Jeep did you get?

Hi Bob and Becky: We just picked up a 2004 Wrangler Unlimited with 2400 miles on it!  Got a good deal on it.  Gave up our Expedition as we will no longer be car-pooling (I'll be homeschooling next year) and no longer towing a travel trailer.  We are excited about doing some off-roading (though probably not rock-climbing...I'm not THAT adventurous)

CK,
I tow a 2002 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I use a Roadmaster Stowmaster all- terrain (I think thats the description)which folds up attached to the Jeep. I have been satisfied with it's operation. The first thing that you need to decide is whether you want motorhome or tow vehicle mounted. I wanted to be able to quickly disconnect and drive off. I can do that in less than two minutes, and have had to when caught in some city traffic situations that required it. (You can't back up with a flat towed vehicle attached). The negative to a car mounted tow bar is that I am concerned that someone may hit and damage it when I am driving around. If I park in a lot I make sure a park head first into a dead end space so no one can pull up or back into it. If I'm staying in an area for a few days I remove the bar from the car to avoid any problems altogether.
