"That takes care of that particular idea--but again, I get myself in spots where I have to bk up or finagle myself around tight places, corners, etc....I guess it's all in the 'awareness first' skills..."
Yup. And that's something I'm still working on too. Several times this summer I'm driven Gertie into tight spots where I had to make "K" turns in order to get out. I can do that now-- she's only 22' long, I have a good backup camera and I'm not towing--but when I have a 26.5' rig (in less than two weeks), things will be different, and if I buy a toad they will be VERY different.
Two of those incidents, by the way, were in badly laid out Flying J truckstops--places where you would not expect to have that kind of problem! In the most recent case, I exited the crowded pumps area to the right...but instead of being able to get back on the highway, I found myself in a tiny parking lot belonging to their restaurant--with no exit! I'mnot sure how I could have foreseen that...but I guess one has to try.

I think Flying J has the worst layout, even regular gas stations are usually better.  I assume it is because cars were never a priority and RV islands are a recent add on.  At least, I hope that is why.  The dump and gas pumps at the one in Cathedral City are really bad and the place is always crowded which makes it even harder.

Hi Gini, I travel alone with Circus Wagon and have a toad.  As everyone is saying, be aware of your surroundings.  I tow a PT Cruiser with a lube pump as it is automatic with a Remco Tow Package & lube package.  Hooking & unhooking is easy and so far (2 years) I have not had to unhook....admittedly a couple of times I thought I would.  Circus Wagon is a 26 1/2 RB and this is my first time Rving.  Good Luck!  Check out tow bars that you can easily hook & unhook alone, thus the Remco with adjjustable arms a couple of pins hook the safety chains, brakes & lube pump

She says you can't backup if towing a toad...and if there isn't a work around, then I'm stuck.
Gini, I'm sorry I couldn't reply sooner.  YES, there is a tow system that will allow you to back up.  We have one, and have towed our '04 Honda CR-V with it for almost four years.  It is an M & G Tow Bar, that mounts on the back of the LD.  Instead of the usual "Y" configuration most tow bars have, this has an "X" configuration.
The vehicle being towed has to have specific camber and castor figures, but the CR-V, and our previous Saturn SL2 both could be backed straight or in a curve.  The catch is, they are no longer being made.  You might be able to find one on the used market, though.  They were made by the company that makes the M & G Tow Brake System.  Their link is below.  If you call them, they may be able to steer you to someone who still has them.
