Tires bias ply - radials
Yahoo Message Number: 66566
Greetings,  I recently had 4 new tires installed on the back of my 23 TK.  Though I paid for radial tires, I learned today that they installed bias-plys.  I'm a bit miffed, but as the tire shop is in Las Vegas New Mexico and I'm in Colorado, I'm stuck with them.  Question, Do I have to put bias plys on the front as well or can radials go on the fronts?  Thanks for any information.

well, from here in Wenatchee, WA we say don't mix them as there's a stability issue in the way the dynamics of the tire and the 'car' perform don't suppose they came from a chain store that would make good on the mix-up - we're not the final word on the subject, hope a tire expert weighs in here - will be checking the responses you get

When we bought our '83 used, it had radials front, bias-ply rear, and there were no handling problems I can attribute to that combo. What does your sales receipt say was installed? What size? What is actually on there?

The invoice says 80 R 16.5, but I didn't get the "r"..... I purchased them at Big O tire in Las Vegas NM.  Big O is a pretty big name around here.  I'm going to call tomarrow, but I'm not holding out to much hope for satisfaction.  It seems that there isn't much customer service these days.  I'll let you know what happens.

If it's the same chain, I bought tires from them once in Los Angeles, and they were Cooper Discoverer series, which I have used a few times.
The size I used was 8.75R16.5 in a 3-season tire.

Good Luck.

Hi Jingle,
If you don't get any satisfaction locally, I'd write a letter to Big O corporate.  And if you don't get any help there send a letter to the New Mexico Attorney General's office.  The AG loves getting into the bait and switch folks.

Safe Travels,
