One of the primary advantages of the HWH "kick down" style hydraulic leveler is that when retracted, it essentially takes away nothing from ground clearance. i.e. during retraction, the ram starts upward and as soon as it clears the ground, the base of the ram starts swinging to the rear. Once folded to the rear, the ram finishes the retraction process.

When deploying the jacks, they first unfold to point straight down.
When this occurs, the base of the jack is typically about 2 inches from the ground. Starting this low allows a substantial lift range (about 7 inches on my MB). In summation, more clearance, more lift range.
There are two basic types of controls that can be uses with the HWH.
The cheapest involves a usually floor mounted panel with direct hydraulic control lever/s. This panel is a bit more difficult to install, as hydraulic hoses will be hooked directly to it. The second type is a touch panel control - - much easier to install. The touch panel can be used with both a "manual" control (one where you watch the level indicator lights and push the buttons as required to achieve level), or the automatic version that does the deed at the push of a button (well, really three pushes of the same button 1st push turns on system, 2nd swings jacks down to vertical so you can put large pads under them if on very soft surface and 3rd push operates all jacks automatically to both level and then stabilize RV. The stabilize operation lightly puts down any jacks that were unneeded in the leveling phase.
