Update on the cleaning of our LD HALLyDAZE
Yahoo Message Number: 66464
Okay...I think we are almost ready to camp.  Here is what I did to get our LD up to snuff.  I had to wash all the walls, headliner, cab over, cabinetc, etc.  I used a rug spot/stain remover and sprayed wall/headliner, etc.  Then I would scrub with a mixture of baking soda/oxyclean/Joy dish soap with a scrub brush.  When I would spray with the pre-treat, the orange stuff would just bubble up.  Then I would scrub with the mixture and wipe off with a towel.  That said, you could not belive the gunk I got off the headliner, cab, etc.  I wore a terry towel outfit that I could clean cuz I knew it would be dripping on me, esp doing the overhead.  It took me two full days to do the headliner of the LD and the front cab.  I bought some stuff at Family Dollar called Mean Green and that did the cab beautifully, orange stuff running everywhere. Even under the seats, up where the feet do not see, vents...
When the guys came to steam clean the LD, they said "We did everything we could but could not get this orange stain out of the cab areas over head, etc.
I sprayed them down with the Mean Green and scrubbed with a towel and the orange nicotine tar came off! Highly recommend the Mean Green.  It smells much better than Awesome and foams a little to know it is cleaning.
We decided not to rehang the valances as they are pretty much toast, even after I Febrezed them.  We did soak the blinds in oxyclean and they came out good. David will make new valances when he gets "round to it". I sat in the LD today and said, "I am ready to live here".
It took a week's worth of cleaning but every nook and cranny has been cleaned including all the fans, vents, etc.  There is still yellowing residual but I can live with that because it is CLEAN.  We will repaint the inside next year and possibly redo the foam/upholstery for the couches and dining table.
It took me 1 hour to scrub the shower but it looks brand new now.  Sad to say that some folks can take care of their units mechanically (the previous owner was very meticulous on that) but let the aesthetics of the camper go by the wayside.
Our new Michelin Ribs get installed next Thursday with valve extenders we just got from Tireman.  Then Friday, we are off to Durango for our first trip out in the LD..  Thanks for sticking with me though our adventure.
