What, no trees for moss to grow??? Having spend six years stationed at Keesler AFB (3+3) in the sixties, I'm quite familiar with your neighborhood. The family and I used to camp at the Big Biloxi Recreation Area. Is that still there? We lived in Biloxi the first three years and in Gulfport the second three. Both my kids were born at the AF Hospital on base.Still have friends in Biloxi who are involved in the same situation you are.Take care and good luck.Steve S. Lazy Bones

I was an Air Force brat--went to highschool at Biloxi High! My Dad was SAC, and taught at Keesler. We were also at Ft. Walton Beach, Eglin AFB and went to school at Niceville and Monroe jr. high! The beachs shown in the aftermath of Katrina were the ones we spent many a warm night on--at that time there weren't any of the floating casinos--just Trader Joe's and a lot of fancy hotels on the strip. Gulfport was a sleepy little back woods town . That was in the early sixties and hurricane Billy...that was a big one to us!
Re: Pickles is a Maltese Reply #6 – April 01, 2006, 07:55:04 pm Yahoo Message Number: 64878Hey Steve. We lost about half the trees we had left (had all the pines taken out about two months before Katrina, so got paid for the lumber, rather than having to pay to take down half-height pines. They break about halfway up in most cases). Sad, but still have enough left that when they spread sufficiently in the next few years, it will look pretty good. I went to a 1 year technical school (basic electronics and associated subjects, then Aircraft Control and Warning Radar Repairman training) in the 1964-1965 time period. That's when I met Carolyn and got hooked and reeled in by that Southern gal. Big Biloxi campground (north 49 from Gulfport) was hit pretty hard and closed after the storm. Recently saw some workers in there doing something, so hopefully it will reopen in the near future. Hope all your friends in Biloxi are ok, many folks got hit far worse than us, so take my whining about fixing up after Katrina with a grain of salt. It will keep us busy for a number of months, but compared to those folks, we have nothing substantial to complain about. Thanks for the words of encouragement. If you, or any other Lders wind up in this area, we have a 30a hookup, with sewer and water that you can use for free, on three fenced acres, about 5 miles west of Saucier. All free of course.George & Carolyn Culp 2001 23.5 T/K (Golden Daze) Retired In: Saucier, MississippiP.S. Because I was prior service I would have been ineligible to take my family overseas so I volunteered for Instructor Duty. Spent the remainder of that tour teaching basic electronics, went to Guam (with the family) and came back to teach "Sets" (the actual equipments) for another three years. Retired in '74 after 4 yrs. in Germany. Wish I'd had a Lazy Daze back then, it would't have been so darn cold while spending all night fishing. When some of my students would come to class on Monday morning all jazzed up, talking about how they'd spent the weekend drinking beer and swimming out at Three Rivers, I'd let them wind down before I told them that I liked to go out there to shoot snakes. You could hear a pin drop.Steve S. Lazy Bones
