Factory lead time March 26, 2006, 07:21:05 pm Yahoo Message Number: 64628We ordered a 2006 23.5 Twin King Saturday and Tim tells us it will be ready late June. It looks like the current lead time is down to 90 days.... We thank the group for giving us many hours worth of reading and info on these fine rigs, but it still looks like we're joining a "Cult." Are there initiation rites? Do you have a secret handshake? Is channel 30 really used much? On another subject, a poster at some point in the last year or more mentioned he had his rig aligned at a San Marcos CA alignment shop that was "Henderson trained." Can anyone share the name of this minor god's shop?Again, our thanks and looking forward to meeting some of you on the road.Mary & Don + Sammy the Wonder Dog

The secret LD "handshake" consists of extending the right hand for a traditional handshake, while adjusting one's reading glasses with the left hand so you can read the name tag on the person you are being introduced to. You may then ask which floorplan and year they own. Youngsters who do not require reading glasses are asked to be respectful. There is no specific initiation rite, other than ordering your own nametags, but there is a magical transformation that occurs when you are handed the keys at the Mothership. Forever after, you will find that: (1) when talking to people who don't own LD's you must constantly talk about how superior they are to all other motorhomes, and possibly to all other homes of all types; and (2) when talking to people who DO own LD's, you must contstantly talk about their minor shortcomings and the tweaking and adjustments that are necessary to accommodate these, including but not limited to upholstery patterns, battery-watering access, storage of all types, black-tank cleaning, ventilation, electrical improvements ("More power!") and, yes, definitely even the kitchen sink.Joanne in Boston 1994 teal TK NE-44

Indeed we are very familiar with (1) and (2) since they also apply to our other passion, the C-Dory "Jenny B" http://www.frommary.com/jennyb.jpg> which has a similarly devoted following. http://www.c-brats.com/portal.php> Towing the Jenny B with our truck often meant a 30 minute gas stop -- 10 minutes to fill the tank and 20 minutes talking to the inevitable admirers. I can only imagine what it will be like towing the boat with the Lazy Daze. A special thanks goes to the Philippis, who generously opened their LD to our prying eyes one day while they were waiting for a new A/C unit at San Marcos Camping World. We'll be looking forward to the first Caravan and getting a Stamp of Approval number. I hope they monitor this group and receive our thanks directly. As long time 5th wheel RV'ers, we still marvel at the forethought that went into these LD's. This will be our first "C" and it reminds us of our first Alpenlite. Less storage, of course, but certainly efficient for folks like us who live "out of" our RV, not "in" it.We didn't opt for the built

When you come to a Caravan Club gathering, you really need a CB. A CB antenna on the roof is much preferred. People using the handheld CBs with a stub antenna usually experience poor performance from inside their rigs (same goes for CBs in offroad vehicles). Looks like unless you make the Golden Caravan in Cheyenne the next regular Caravan outing you could make is in Tehachapi in Sept. Hope to see you then.Art

Especially the part about adjusting the reading glasses!Don, I agree with Art -- you might re-think the CB purchase. That ol' Ed probably talked you out of it, but CBs are used constantly as a source of communication during Caravan Club events: to get the daily weather report, to receive morning announcements about that day's events, to contact the EMS/fire teams

First thing is to find out what make and model CB was installed. Was it installed when the rig was built in '01 or later? New rigs have the Cobra 75WXST, but I doubt those were installed in '01 (since our '02 doesn't). I would want to know if your model does have a channel scanning capability. If so, it's a matter of turning of scan mode. If not, you probably have a broken CB. Do you have the user manual?Art

I know, it's heretical, but we'll look appropriately chastened whence we meet. It will definitely have CB prior to any Caravan we visit. Our proposed Nav system requires the GPS antenna be installed on the roof. A local installer will be putting both the CB and GPS antennas in when they install the CB and Nav System as a package. With the width of the LD much wider than that of the boat trailer, and a spouse who doesn't do spotting (I prefer staying married), I needed/wanted a backup camera both for hitching up and backing down launch ramps, plus it's handy to check astern while traveling. Enter the Pioneer AVIC-N3. With the LD due late June, it's probably not in the cards for us to hit Cheyenne. Much more likely we'll do the Julian caravan in October though.Lorna, thank you very much. Len and Martha told us to look for the "Past Tents" if we ever jumped in, but I have CRS and their first names/group was in volatile memory and didn't survive the last memory dump.
