mattress in cab March 24, 2006, 11:46:20 am Yahoo Message Number: 64518as a full time LD'er and my lounge transformed into an office, I use the cabover as the main bed. The bed which dinette makes is for overnight guests and when having occasional relational disharmony. The mattress in the cabover is not really designed for full time use. An excellent solution is to purchase a Tempur mattress. They come in different thicknesses, 1 to 4 inches, and can be placed just on top of the LD mattress. Two major advantages. It improoves sleeping considerably: they are very, very comfortable. Sheets for the mattress do not fit really the existing LD-mattress but fit easily around the Tempur. One word of warning: before putting in a Tempur mattress, air it some time outside, otherwise you will enjoy a rather unpleasant smell.

Although I find the LD installed mattress quite comfortable, I did consider putting in a memory foam topper... and still may. I worried that, as tight as that space is for headroom, adding a few more inches to the height of the bed might make it noticeably tighter still. How is it for you?David

I'ts snug, and I would have liked more overhead room to start with, but it's not bad enough to rip out the factory mattress; not yet, at least. And it's comfortable; I sleep like a baby on its mother's bosom. And while we're on that subject, because of the reduced space, you might have to become a bit creative in certain amorous activities, if you get my drift. Do watch out for that hatch handle. Will

Re: mattress in cab Reply #4 – March 24, 2006, 06:42:13 pm Yahoo Message Number: 64535I put a 2" topper on mine. I sleep in the motorhome cabover bed better than in my bedroom (& I don't have a cheap mattress there!)
