I have only seen one Lazy Daze in person which was a late model 26.5 RB.  I have looked at the floor plans on the LD web site and all of them look like there is not a whole lot of work space on the kitchen counter.  There is that pop up section that is less than a foot wide and not much space at all between the stove and the sink.

Is this observation correct?

Where do you do your food prep, on the dinette?

We removed the installed flip down counter and replaced it (using the LD installed hardware) with a regular hardwood cutting board that we got at Home Depot for $20.  It has more than doubled that space and works great for us.  We use it several times every day.

The "pop up" in our kitchen is 11" x 13."  However, I use it mostly to place items on, I don't use it for cutting food.  For that, I have a wooden cutting board that fits the large sink (got it from Lazy Daze).  Since I don't much use the stove, plates are placed on the stove cover while I'm making a salad...or, if I am using the stove, there is enough room at the other end of the sink to place two plates with the "pop up" in the deployed position.  I supposed if you are a gourmet cook, then you might find the kitchens a bit confining, but for us, it works just fine.

I also got my wooden cutting board from Lazy Daze and they assured me that it would fit the sink... NOT!

I had to cut and sand a substantial amount of wood from around the outside edge in order to make it sit down on that very narrow ledge in the larger of the two sinks. NOW it fits just fine.

That's a drag Steve.  I also got the wooden cutting board from the mothership and it fits fine.  You do have to have the thin cover on the sink for it to be secure.  We've also discovered that on a rough road it will bounce over enough to turn on the water filter.  That was not fun.  Now, we either move the cutting board elsewhere to drive or turn off the water pump.  I couldn't live without it though, it increases the space for prep work.

I got the cutting board from the factory.  I also got the sterilite drainer & dishpan that Riley's found.  The drainer fits in the dishpan & they both fit into the sink perfectly.  I then put the cutting board onto of the drainer.  The legs of the cutting board fit into the drainer.  As I remember.... I think I did have to move one of the feet.
Even I can do that!  :-) Evelyn

I cooked full, from scratch meals in our 22' TK for many years.  One helpful trick, even if you ARE using the stove, is to put burner covers over the burners you are not using, or put a smallish cookie sheet over the area you are not using.  This gives a tiny bit more room, yet still allows the use of the stove burners.  Be careful, though, with what you are putting on the stove in case the higher-than-room-temperature heat might do it harm.

When making something that required a lot of space, I frequently put a towel on the overhead bead and put things up there for a while, when other tasks had to be completed on the available kitchen counter space space.  I frequently put things into the sink just as if it were a counter - especially if I was too lazy to get out the sink covers.

The dash is a good place to let dough rise, being mindful of how hot it can get there.

The back table could be used, too, except that we always had it covered with computer debris!

I'm confused--there's a double stainless steel sink in my '98 IB...from what I keep reading there are a lot of small differences in the various rigs. When I read e-mails, sometimes it takes me a bit to realize *I* don't have the same stuff others are writing about.

I had a large "stove top" cutting board with drain groves and non-skid backing that fit on top of the stove cover in my old SOB. I keep it on top of my stove, and can put it across the sinks, or leave it there, or just prop it up behind the sink if I need to use the stove. It doesn't LOOK like there's a lot of space to cook in, but if you are organized, there really is enough.

I thought about Kate's suggestion to replace the pop up panel, but often I leave it up for drying dishes, and if it were any bigger, I couldn't get my er, rather large behind past it!

Well, yes, we do have different "models", I believe yours is a 26.5' and mine is a 30'IB. However, shouldn't our sinks be the same???

Steve, we have the 23.5' TK.
And, while you would *think* that the sinks would be the same in all models, that's not necessarily so.  After all, the depth of the overhead cabinets in our 23.5' is shallower than your 30', and your couch makes into a double bed while ours (individually) make out only into twin beds.
So, maybe they use different size sinks in the different models.  Or -- more likely -- it's just the differences in sizes in the cutting boards.
Our cutting board is not flush with the rim of the sink; however, all four little feet fit inside the sink so that it stays in place...even when we're driving.  (By the way, we, too, threw away the flimsy thin cover that came with the sink.)

However, I don't think your cutting board was the wrong size, it just needs the laminate board to stand on.

Jonna, as I mentioned in a previous post, we threw away our laminate board, but our cutting board still fits on top of the sink.  It doesn't sit on the little feet...it simply rests on top of the sink along the edges.  Hard to explain unless you actually see it.
It think it's more likely that the cutting boards are slightly different sizes.

Oh mine will also sit directly on the sink, it does work.  I think it is more secure, especially for cutting, when the board is under it.  I was just trying to say that it is 'designed' (heh) to work with the board and the feet are supposed to keep it a little above the sink.
I kind of doubt that the boards are different sizes, at least purposely.
They only have one size that I've seen at the factory and his description of it sounds like the way they all fit, he just didn't like it.
I happen to like the little board but I also hide unwashed dishes under it and in general prefer not to look into the sink unless I'm washing them.
I'd love a little board for the small sink too, keep it all hidden!
