Why go to LD gatherings?
Yahoo Message Number: 58385
Please tell some newbies why you go to LD gatherings. This is a very bright group--amazingly so---and we are wondering what you get from going to various gatherings and what you hope to get from the Anniversary gathering next summer.
Our inexperienced imaginations picture side-by-side generators--lots of crowding and noise--but we figure that you all have figured out how to enjoy the company of other LD fans without going nuts from noise, crowding, fumes, etc.
So please tell us newbies why you go and what to expect. We don't even have our LD yet--Dec delivery--so we are lower than newbies. Just tadpoles who hope to be frogs someday.

Thanks, Maryellen

Hi Maryellen,
First of all, most gatherings are held at regular campgrounds, with hookups for water and electric, so generators are a non-issue.  That's one reason why there's so much focus on rules about generators at the upcoming jubilee event -- there's not enough experience to just take generator use or policies for granted.
Campgrounds chosen for gatherings also are chosen for their ambience as well as amenities -- crowding isn't an issue that I'm aware of.  For instance, at gatherings of the Northeast group, which has about 50 member households, only about half the LD's can make it, so that's 50 or 60 people spread out over 25 sites -- not a crowd

"I was apparently the only person at Woodstock who brought enough water, food, and TP for the whole weekend."

Nope, I did too. :-) Gave much of it away when I left.

From his web posting when he retired we know he sits around naked to contemplate his future so he would have been the long haired naked guy.  Remember him now?

LOL! Actually, I was the guy who only went because my friends had no car and I did, who never got near the performance area for various reasons (mainly the crowds and the hassle), and who came home a day early. Woodstock was pretty much a waste of time and money for me--I'd rather have stayed home and listened to Hendrix LPs. ;-)
