Okay, folks, I've been lurking in the shadows since August, gathering information for my "what I want" checklist.  Within the next 2 weeks I probably will be ordering a 26.5 MB  and have decided on the "what I want" with that one nagging exception: Mobile Internet!
After reviewing all the info provided in this group and in one called RVInternetBySatellite, I am more confused than ever, and my conversation with Ed at LD didn't resolve my dilemma. Using a cell phone set up does not meet my needs.  I rely heavily on the internet for both personal & business communications and will be travelling (and living) in non-cell areas.

According to Ed, they will mount a "Winegard" dish (manual or automatic).  I know the dish is used for Satellite TV reception, but can it also be used for Satellite Internet?  Does anyone know the specs on the particular dish that LD installs?  I need to decide whether to have LD mount the dish or make arrangements on my own with an installer with possibly different hardware. I really don't care about the TV aspect, just the internet. (Note - I probably will not be going to the factory, but will be ordering Long Distance from Maryland.)

A few more details: Early next spring I will be selling my house in Maryland to move to New Mexico.  I may or may not use my LD to live in while dis- assembling my MD residence.  I probably will use it to live in for at least several months when I arrive in NM, then probably will use it for weekends and long vacations (this is a semi-retirement move).

I also want to find a service that does not charge an arm and a leg for both mobile and stationary(home)use so I can have that taken care of once I find my place in the NM mountains.  Are there any ISPs that provide that?
Thanks in advance for your insights.  I'm anxious to place my order, but need to get this last nagging decision made before I do so. After that, I can focus on the important things, like "what to name her?"

Thanks again,

Some that have satellite Internet on the RV use it via their wireless LAN when at home (assuming their RV is parked next to their home, of course ;)
Others have an inexpensive fixed satellite antenna at their home and move their modems out of their RV into their home.
IOW, you can have one account for Internet access while at home or in your LD.

best,  paul

Thanks Paul.  I wasn't sure whether the modems could work in both RV & house.  That's one question settled.

Do be aware that satellite modems have an important difference from legacy modems we used to connect to our PCs.  Satellite modems are "commissioned" to your account.  So if you want a modem

Looks like I have to do a lot more homework... Now I'll be contemplating roof reinforcement vs tripod ....

So if you want a modem in your RV at the same time you have a modem in your home this means two accounts.

Also, Motosat is going to be offering a month-by-month contract at rates typically $20-$30 per month higher than the contract price, depending on the service plan.
This might be of interest to those who mostly vacation in their RV and have DSL, etc, at home.

As always, for satellite Internet DatastormUsers.com is your best source for the latest news.

best, paul

No.  The satellite Internet dish is quite a bit larger.  The one LD installs is strickly for TV. If you're going to go with a roof-mounted DataStorm system, have LD reinforce your roof.

If you're going to store your LD at your home in NM, you can always set up a router so that you can get on the Internet in the comfort of your home.  No separate ISP needed, since Direcway will be your ISP

It should be mentioned that, if you go with DirecWay for your internet connection, the same dish can be used for internet as well as DirecTV with an upgrade kit for the DirecWay dish.  Of course you can also do that with DataStorm, but the equipment is much more expensive.
