On our other motorhomes we could visually confirm the amount of water in the tank. I don't know where it is in the t/k and was wondering if one can see the side of it from anywhere inside or outside. Is the tank under the sofa? I know the monitor is the primary indicator but we like to see it too.

Cindy, in order to see the fresh water tank on the Twin/King, you must pull out the drawers in the kitchen.  Even with a flashlight shining on the tank, it's difficult to see the level of the water, although not impossible.  We learned this when we had to replace our water pump.

Cindy, I've never heard a complaint about the accuracy of the freshwater tank gauge (though some folks do have trouble with their black tank gauges), so checking the water level visually isn't something people worry about.

Linda, Is the water tank underneath the coach or inside? Are you looking down on it from inside?

Thanks, Cindy

Andy, Cindy,

Personally I find all the tank gauges rather unuseful and sometimes misleading. When dry camping one is never sure if there is enough water and grey/black tank room for another day or a trip to the water and dump site is required.  We have lived a day with the water tank LED showing red.  Each light seems to be plus or minus a few gallons.  I have contemplated adding sight gauges to all the tanks (except the black) but they are potential leak points.  Since the gray and black tanks are so shallow, it's hard to get an accurate float gauge.

Cindy, it looks to me like it sits level with the floor of the LD; thus, you're looking at the side of the water tank when you pull the kitchen drawers out.

I was also concerned how accurate the gauges were so checked them out a couple of times when I was emptying and refilling the freshwater tanks and cleaning my blackwater tank.  In my case when the 1/3 light comes on, I have 24-26 gallons left in the fresh water tank, when the "Empty" light comes on  I still have 10- 12 gallons of fresh water.  I have tried this several times and always got the same results.  When my blackwater indicator shows full, it is!

PS.  I also had the "errupting" water pump.  LD factory sent out a new one immediately and was a snap to replace.  If anyone hears what the actual problem was I'd be interested.  Talked to Steve and he hadn't heard anything at the time.

No problems with the accuracy, Andy, its the precision that is lacking.  When one LED is lit, it means the tank is somewhere between 1/3 and dry!  When you're boondocking, a visual check provides much more information--telling us whether or not we can shower and still have water to flush, or whether we sponge bathe until the next water spigot.  Such a check is easy on the rear kitchen models, since pulling out the street-side sofa only an inch or two provides a clear view of the water level.

This is a common complaint among a lot of RVers. Most tank sensors work the same way. On our 2003 23.5' FL, we can pull the couch out a little and see the level of the freshwater tank.
The good new is that there are better sensors on the market One company is AcuGage.
Art, the "old fossil", replaced his using this product. He and his wife are traveling in Alaska, so I doubt if he will join in but I think he was happy with the improved accuracy. The AcuGage shows the tank level in ten segments, instead of three.

The really nice thing about this system is that the sensors are on the outside of the tanks and do not become fouled. Our black water tank occasionally misreads when the internal pickups becomes coated in slime.

Actually, we are staying in an RV park with WiFi so that we can catch up on email and forums and so Barbara can do some updates to the Caravan Club website.
I actually installed a model 711T SeeLevel gauge from Garnet Technologies.

This system reads in percentage of full.  On our tanks, we see the readout change in 2-3% steps.  We are very happy with this system.

I remembered that you had installed an external sensing monitor, my failing memory failed to get the correct brand  .
Running out of water or waste storage, at the wrong time, is one of those RV adventures that should be avoided. The Factory installed, internal  sensor system, is primitive and prone to error and misreading.
Fleetwood is now using this technology and it is about time that LD adapted it.
My brother's new Winnebago has external sensors and he was quick to point this out. All in all, his new Winnie is a nice unit and was $10,000 less the comparable LD.  The competition is catching up.

I don't understand why ALL RV manufacturers don't use the outside sensors -- they not that expensive, so they certainly can't add much to the price of an RV!
