Removing window valances

OK - I give up.  We need to replace our window shades, and I'm guessing that the key to doing that is to remove the top valance.  But for the life of me, I can't figure out how it's installed.  I'm sure someone here has removed theirs - would you be so kind as to share "how-to" with me?  I'd be quite grateful.

Thanks, Ted H.

In my '94, the valances were attached with LOTS of screws, which were visible and accessible if you looked behind the valance -- most were screwed upward, into the underside of the upper cabinets.
Not sure what type of shades the '02's have, but valance removal would not have been necessary for me to remove the shades in the '94 -- they're ordinary window shades, with a bracket at each end that you can easily remove the shade from.  Same as old-fashioned house shades -- one bracket has a hole in it, and the other has a slot that a square end on the shade goes into; this is also why you can re-roll them if the spring gets tired.  But perhaps the '02s have a different setup.
If you like I can take a photo of what the shade brackets look like after valance removal, so you can visualize what's going on in there.

Ted, If you still have the side valances, you will need to unscrew those from the wall in order to take down the whole thing. There are screws at the bottom part of the side valances which are covered with the round fabric covered caps. The caps pop off and you can remove the screws. The upper part of the side valances are screwed into the top valance. And has already been said, the top valances are screwed into the cabinets above them.

GM All - Can the window valances be removed and then reinstalled fairly easily?  I want to recover them.  Thought about removing altogether, but since we full-time and covet insulation in the winter I think we will retain the valances.  What is the procedure for removing these and then reinstalling?  I can't really see how they are attached.....

Sorry I'm such a dunce.

Hi Carol,
I removed and re-installed one of the valences in my 01 'rb while having a blind repaired by the mfg.  It was not much problem.  A few screws and it comes down, and it goes back up easily.
The only caveat might be that the valence comes down as one pieces, and the sides seem to be rather flimsily attached to the top, so having a second person helping while removing and re-installing is a good idea.
