Group: Is there a good source of information available to establish a reasonable selling/asking price for a late model (2001 MB, 25K miles) Lazy Daze?   I'll be putting ours up for sale shortly and want to get some idea of what to price it at.  Hate to do it but we haven't used it for about a year except for a few short runs to the airport to pick up relatives and one trip down to Ohio.

It's a shame to just have it sitting here.

Regards.

In addition to the "Used LD Asking Price" file, take a look at the following listing of a 2003 LD, currently in the Yahoo group's Files section in the "All LDs for Sale" folder:

This listing does a nice job of illustrating how to establish the asking price of your LD, including any options it may have.

When you decide to sell, be sure to post a message to this group, which includes several prospective buyers.

RV's are really no different than automobiles when dealing with the subject of options and add-ons.  There are certain things, like air conditioners, that are legitimate adds to the price.  Many other things, although nice to have, and may have cost a lot of money, would not be considered by a dealer if you were to trade in your RV.  A good guide is the NADA guide book http://www.nadaguides.com/autohome2.aspx?Lnk=1&wSec=10&wPr=0&wPg=2111 .
Here you can see the things that add value to your vehicle.  Just don't add standard equipment!  :-)

Ethical buying means getting the best deal possible for the buyer, regardless of what seller cartels may want to charge for used merchandise *grin*   A fair price is when and ethical seller (discloses everything they know about the unit) accepts an offer from a buyer, possibly an offer that is less than what the buyer hoped to sell for.

There is no requirement that the seller accept an offer and no requirement that a buyer offer more than they wish to.  In the best of all worlds, it seems to me, the seller places a used LD with a buyer who will take good care of it for a mutually acceptable price and they become friends after the transaction.

David,

Sorry, that was not the intent.  I'm sure that potential buyers appreciate having the price justified by a careful analysis such as you presented.

I just thought people should be aware of the basis of the 'Asking Prices' file.  As I mentioned, I would probably price mine exactly as you have done, to leave some room for negociation.

As I have also mentioned earlier, these are asking prices, not selling prices.  On the other hand, the demand for good condition used LDs is such that hearsay evidence seems to indicate that the two prices are probably close for good units.

This seems reasonable.  The "mutually acceptable price" wording is, to me, what the "fair price" is of an item.

We bought then-six-year old Gertie in 1991, and knew from the outset that the Lazy Daze was "our kind of rig"!  In the early 90's, we started saving for our retirement Lazy Daze by buying CD's and savings bonds.  When the anticipated time came, the magic of compound interest had provided sufficient funds to buy a new Lazy Daze and a new toad.  Retirement was delayed a while, and during that time, we came to the realization that we would not be able to fulltime in our much-anticipated Lazy Daze - AND have all our toys along.  It seemed pointless to have bunches of free time, but not the toys that we had anticipated playing with during this time.

Some friends were having to get off the road due to health reasons and were selling their less-than-two-year old forty-foot behemoth.  Their asking price was more than we had saved up, but we had a long-standing budgeted amount and couldn't go over that amount.

It just depends on who is willing to compromise, and how far.
We had just the one number to work with, and were not at all sure that pushing sixteen tons of metal around the country was all that appealing.  Our compromise was that we could not afford to purchase the large rig AND a new toad, so we put off the toad purchase for two years, using instead our 1991 compact sedan.  The sellers' compromise was that they no longer had a motorhome to insure and store, but instead had investment funds.

Fast forward - we have had Francine now since the month after Andy adopted Gertie in 2001, and are very happy with the purchase.
We are still in cordial communication with the seller, so I think we've met all of the criteria.

Of course, I still pine for another Lazy Daze - that will likely never subside!  ;->

Judie,
We just missed crossing trails, we just got back from Vancouver Island and are at the SKP park in Chimicum WA.  We are leaving tomorrow heading south, we're going tire-kicking with some friends that are shopping for a new class A.  I don't want one but it is fun to look.
We will be in Vancouver WA in a couple days and stay there over Labor Day.  I wish it had been Tortuga and Sapo you saw, hope to meet up with you and Gary one of these days.

Pat, go to the Files section and look at the file named "Asking Prices for Used LDs.txt."
