In his excellent advice re the pickup of our new rig  (IN JUST 8 DAYS) Terry suggested we get the deluxe mirrors to replace the standard mirrors offered on LD.  We have ordered the heated electric mirrors with the built in turn signal (which is the feature we really wanted) and I was wondering, Does anyone know what size these are compared to the standard mirrors and the deluxe mirrors?

Thanks

Bob,
are you referring to the heated electric mirrors or the deluxe mirrors that Terry recommended?

mirrors and the deluxe mirrors?
On the "Techsnoz" site, http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Techsnoz/ in the "Files" section and in file Velvac.pdf, is the following info:

Technical Data: Mirror      Height  Width  Flat Glass  Wide Angle =========  =======  ======  ==========  =========== Original    11.5"    8.5"  61 sq. in.    9 sq. in.
Deluxe      13.0"    9.0"  62 sq. in.    30 sq. in.

The turn signals on the mirror arms are a wothwhile feature, but they can be added for about $15 and a day's work as described in the "Techsnoz" file - TurnSignals.pdf

The heated powered mirrors may be the standard size mirrors rather than the ones with the large wide angle mirror.

But does anyone know if the heated mirrors are the larger or not?  Has anyone had them installed?  Just checking for info, as for us, it's already a done deal

They must be installed in reverse, putting the right mirror on the

left side and the left mirror on right side.  Otherwise they stick out too far. There is no problem at all in reversing them.
It all depends upon the length of the mirror arm.  On my 2001 RB, the mirror arm is about 18 inches from the center of the pivot to the center of the mirror socket.  On some models for some years, the mirror arms are shorter so switching the left mirror to the right side may not work.

Try switching them and if it works, great.  But it may not work in every case.

Kate, Your best bet is to call LD and ask specifically what mirrors they are installing.
I had my 1999 30IB retrofitted with the deluxe heated power mirrors recently and the larger heads  make a world of difference in what I am able to see. I was going to just add the deluxe mirror heads, but unfortunately, the model of mirror on my rig required new arms also. I wasn't about to try that myself, so went whole hog and got the electric.
When I was looking at the Velvac site for the correct mirrors to order, I don't recall seeing electric heated mirrors in the smaller size.

Anybody need a pair of original black Velvac mirrors from a 2003 Lazy Daze? I just replaced mine with larger ones. Yours for the cost of postage. :-)

"Will they fit on a 1991?"
Dunno. These are medium-sized Velvac mirrors of the type installed by Lazy Daze on Ford (not Chevy) chassis for most of the past decade. They are just the heads, not the arms. They have a flat glass with a small parabolic (wide-angle) mirror glued on in the lower corner.
If your vehicle has single-piece Velvac arms, these mirror heads should drop right onto the ends. On the other hand, if it has multiple struts supporting the mirrors, extensive modification would be needed to use these--probably more trouble than it would be worth.
In short, these are most suitable for somebody who has the standard Velvac mirrors and needs to replace a broken one.

I believe that sometime between 1998 and 2002 LD changed the Velvac mirror model installed on the motorhomes.  We have friends that had a 1998 23' FD that wanted to replace the mirror heads with the deluxe heads many of us were getting.  But their arms could not use the newer mirror heads.  The mounting footprint on the cab door was the same, so they could have replaced the entire mirror arm and head assembly on both sides, but decided against it because of cost and labor.  If I remember, their mirror arm could swing back, but not forward as well like ours can.

Hope this helps someone, Art

Helen, since Dale spoke first, he has first dibs on these--assuming they'll fit his 1991 rig.
More information on that: these mirror heads are 11" high x 8" to 9" wide, with a 1" diameter cylindrical mounting post at bottom center. The heads used bronze sleeves over the mounting posts to increase their diameter to about 1.25", but I needed those sleeves to install the new, larger Velvac heads in my rig. So whoever gets these is going to have to have to work with 1" mounting posts. That said, do you still want them, Dale? If not, Helen's next in line. :-)

Ok. Mine are the older type that have several struts, so I think it would be to much hastle getting them to fit. I would like to have another wider mirror tho. Thanks anyway for the offer. Be well. Dale.

It's simple to switch out the older strut type mirrors with the new Velvac mirrors (including arms that swing both forward and backward).

I did with Ciao and she looks a bazillion times better.
