Oil Changes, extended interval

Since on-the-road oil changes are being discussed, here's one possible answer. Don't change the oil on the road; wait until you get back home.
IF, AND ONLY IF: (1) You are no longer under warranty (2) You don't pull a toad (3) 5W-30 works for you and (4) your trip will be less than 15,000 miles.

Mobile 1 Extended Performance Fully Synthetic Motor Oil.
Check out the Mobile 1 website. An interesting product. Per the container print "New proven protection for 15,000 miles. Guaranteed".

Just wondering why no one is mentioning greasing when discussing oil changes?  I believe there are 9 grease fittings on my 04 Ford chassis.  I used to do my own oil (and grease) changes when I owned a house.  Being on the road makes it much more difficult.  I am in Nova Scotia now and I usually find prices in Canada to be fair.  Others are trying to make a living too and a labor fee of $20-$30 to do the oil changes and grease job is fair in my own opinion.
I have been keeping abreadst of LD news via this group.  I am the guy who purchased a Bigfoot as at age 65 I could not afford to lose a summer of travelling while waiting for an LD to be built.  We left CA on April 12 and spent three months crossing the US and Canada along the northern border.  We have been at our Nova Scotian land for a month now.  I am happy to state that our country is as pretty as ever although we did see much clear cutting near national parks.  Hopefully the politicians will keep their greedy hands off of our national treasures...
Some observations:  I saw a total of 3 LD's during our 3 month trek across the country.  For whatever it is worth I also saw a total of 2 Bigfoots.
I am sorry  that I do not have an LD and I could have been a good ambassador as we expect to live in our house in CA for 6 months yearly and travel the remaining months.
I am satisfied with the Bigfoot.  Someone else had mentioned a few months ago of being turned off by the high price.  Those are suggested list prices and dealers will haggle...The price for my 24db Bigfoot was about the same as a 26ft LD.  Bigfoots have more storage space and better insulation.  They are bigger though and eat up gas.  I am getting all of 8mpg...I do have one large solar panel and we can usually spend 5-6 days before having to dump and fill up with water.  Holding tanks are nearly the same as on the LD.
From what I read though LD's are built better and get better gas mileage but I am not complaining about my Bigfoot.
We downsized from a 36ft Country Coach diesel pusher and I am happy to state that my wife and I are still talking and not regretting our change in RV's.  Oh we do miss the larger size and comfort of the bigger unit but it is not threatening our marriage.  When travelling the smaller unit was wonderful as we went down roads we never would have attempted with the bigger unit.  The freedom to explore was wonderful.  We shall be leaving our lakeside property in 2 weeks and going to Newfoundland for a month before returning to Nova Scotia.  Come the middle of Oct we shall head down to NYS (our home) to visit our daughter and husband and former friends before making a 2 week jaunt across the country to our CA house.
Hope to see some of you on the road.
Travel safe, Mike Lewis.

Mike - where in NS is your property?  My sister and I own land on the west shore of Bra D'Or Lake in Marble Mountain.  Beautiful country, eh?
If you need to track the weather, here's a link to the local Cape Breton weather radar:

Sorry you couldn't wait for an LD, but it sounds as if you're happy with the Bigfoot.

Happy trails, Ted H.

The discussion of what kind of oil to use and how often to change it has been very interesting, but we have a question about a different aspect of the question.
If you don't change your own oil, where do you get your oil changed, both at home and on the road?

Thanks,

Lucinda and Joe 23.5' TK wannabes

Hi Lucinda and Joe.
Any Ford truck dealer or any RV dealer with a service bay will change it for you, and most Ford car dealers will also.  I used to have to pay $69 in Southern California, and the cheapest ever was $19 (US equivalent) in Thunder Bay, Canada.  But it is so easy to do that I only have it done when on the road.  Don't forget greasing the chassis whwen needed - that is also an easy chore.

Good luck
