We did not go to the opera while we were in Santa Fe in the Fall and Winter of 2003-04, but did stay at a nice park there called Santa Fe Skies RV Park.  While there was no shuttle that went to the Opera House itself, there is taxi service that the park owners are happy to tell you about.  If a group is going, then some sort of transportation could probably be arranged quite economically.

Public transportation is available at a nearby shopping center where you can park your vehicle and take the bus into downtown Santa Fe, where the streets are fairly narrow, and walking around is quite easy.

Santa Fe is a very old city, and the streets are sized more for oxcarts than motorized vehicles!  We were down there in our van, and I was always glad to get back to the 'burbs!

If you are at all a photo buff, be sure to take copious amounts of film or digital camera cards because the opportunities assail you at every step of the way in downtown.

There is an assisted living facility there that has earned a place in my files . . . for "much later", of course!

As for the weather, we were there from September 20th to the end of January, and it was delightful for about the first two months.
After that, it got very cold, especially at night, and didn't warm up a lot during the daytime hours.  The air was sparkling clear, though, both day and night, so daytime walks and nighttime star gazing were wonderful.  ;->

We did not keep the water or sewer hoses connected, and basically just dry camped (with electricity) for December and January.  It got down to zero routinely at night, and I had to take extreme measures to keep the cold wind from coming into the coach through the air vents at the front of the rig.  FYI, a $2. Coleman space blanket does the trick.  I draped it over the steps and up onto the vents, keeping it in place with bolsters.

Just a quick question.  As this will be my first "official LD get together, I was wondering who on this board I might get to finally meet?

Just curious

Kate (impatiently waiting, but only for 17 more days!)

Hi Kate ... The list won't be finalized for another few weeks, until complete payments have been received, and then Marial will be sending a "Details-Details" sheet to attendees only.  To protect the guilty, names aren't usually publicized on this Board!
I can tell you this much though, the Uppity of Uppitiest Braniacs lined up to give presentations and keep us out of trouble so far include: Joan Taylor, Jonna Harlan, Mimi Babcock, Ilene VanGossen.  So far we have a fine mix of repeat attendees and "Uppity Women in Training," not to mention Madame Marial who will crack the whip (probably using her standard red feather boa) to insure the hoopin and hollerin stays at level mach 10!

Also, as we speak, Jonna is updating our Ladeze web site -- construction will probably be concluded by the end of next week.  It will contain visuals and commentary to whet your appetite!  I'm sure everyone will look forward to touring your new beauty, and we're honored you chose a Ladeze outing as your first Lazy Daze GTG.

YIKES!  We'll just have to fix that Karen.  Jonna's working on it as we speak -- we'll just add that to her list!  I'll post it here and add it to the links when she's through spiffying it all up.  That's a word isn't it?!

And leaps over her LD in a single bound! Nah. I'm just to stupid to get out of the way of black clouds. We kayaked out too far to get back in on time. Gotta do something to get rid of the oldladyflabbyarms. I know that's a word.

Drycamping in Auburn???

Well, after all this waiting, we are now close to feeling panic trying to put everything together!
We pick up the rig on the 23rd, have an appointment with the Tireman on the 30th, which we figure gives us a bit of time to figure out the rig before leaving Montclair.
We had doped to get driving lessons somewhere in there, but there are NO openings, so after begging and pleading, we have scheduled driving lessons in Auburn on September 7 & 8.  With this, I'm hoping to be able to park the rig at the LaDeze get together without hitting anything!

So the instructor told us it would be best to camp at the Auburn Fairgrounds, but wouldn't you know it, the !!@> FAIR starts on the 8th, so our hopes aren't too high.
So can anyone give me any idea on where we can drycamp (cheaply) in the Auburn area?

Kate (ooh . . .17 days and now it seems REALLY close!!)

Which Auburn is that, WA or CA?  Can help with the CA one. (Yes I should know because of the driving school ref. but I don't)  SC

So leaping over the LD in a single bound will get rid of those "oldladyflabbyarms"???

Wow! Who knew?

Will you do a demonstration? I'll bring treats.

That was in response to kayaking in a storm ;-). The LD leap is good for relieving saggybuttitus. By the time I get to meet the LaDeze I'll have it all perfected.

BTW. We plan on holding Andy hostage when he comes back to Jersey.

This may sound silly, but which Auburn??? We live about 11 miles up hwy49 above Auburn, Cal., and 12miles before Grass Valley ..if this is the Auburn you're talking about, we have ten acres [in between Auburn and GV] where I'd be very happy to park you--and we have shore power and water available to you--a pad where my old 85' is currently parked, but it moves...grin!!
And, after a few thousand miles driving my own 30FTer, I'd be more than happy to share any driving experience I have that you could use! I was a heavy equipment operator for years before becoming a "house/farm wife" so I can even back up ! double grin!

And I'd LOVE the opportunity of seeing a brand new LD up close and personal, as I am VERY seriously looking to unload ol' "Frankie" and get me a new-to-me 1999/up 26 1/2 MB when and if I can find one.
Also, if there are any current owners sort of close to me who'd be willing to show me theirs, please reply and we'll get together!

Many thanks for the info re: the Santa Fe Opera and the RV camping places.  I have signed up with the SFO and hope to get information re: tickets, dates etc. in time for the La Deze GTG in Sept.  Hopefully there will be the interest and we can maybe get something set up for 2006.  Not limited to ladies tho.
