Don, Interesting question, since as many times as I have run the generator, checked the oil, etc., I never paid that much attention to how it was housed. So I put on an old shirt, got down and dirty under the LD, and here are the measurements that I came up with for our 2004 23.5 TK. This is probably more than you wanted to know, but hopefully you can pick out what you need. The existing Onan 4000 generator measures about 14" H x 28" L x 17" D. It is housed in a metal frame about 14" H x 31"L x 19"D. The coach access door to the generator measures 23.5"L x 9.5"H, with radial corners and is top-hinged. The generator compartment is bounded by a lengthwise chassis frame on the inner side, by the steps to the front, by the chassis springs to the rear, and is completely open on the bottom. The measurement from the top of the generator compartment to the bottom of the existing generator mounting frame is 14 3/4", and the distance from the bottom of that frame to the ground is about another 14". The overall generator compartment length is about 45", and the depth about 26". To me, given how many things are installed elsewhere using every inch of space, the generator compartment seems really roomy. Will

Don't tell Bumper; he'll stick another battery in there! ;-)Joan

One of the major (and I do mean major) denied options by LD was when I requested a diesel engine in a 23.5 I very much understand their reluctance, since it meant basically reengineering the unit to accomodate propane for the generator.Wonders of technology happen daily and Kubota comes up with an RV/marine diesel generator that's already being used by Winnebago in their "Sprinter" diesel RV's and is said to be as quiet as the legendary Honda 65db portable generators.I sent a query to LD sales asking about a diesel 23.5 chassis with the Kubota diesel generator *if* the compartment would fit the little gem. No answer yet, of course, but in this case maybe it means somebody is thinking about it! From your venture under the chassis, it appears the distance between where the generator is mounted and the top of that compartment is about 2" too short to squeeze that puppy in. (sigh) Dropping the mounting frame would put the bottom only 12" from the ground and maybe cause a safety issue. It sure sounds nice though.INFO FOLLOWS:Compact Diesel GeneratorThe UCRV1-3.5 ultra-compact auxiliary generator is said to be the smallest and lightest diesel unit on the market in its size category. Measuring just 16 inches high, 30 inches long, and 18 inches deep, this 3,500-watt Kubota-powered unit will fit into many storage compartments where low-profile gasoline-powered units normally would be installed. The UCRV1-3.5 is mounted in a clamshell pan and, thanks to extra- resilient isolation mounts and an operating speed of 2,800 rpm, promises to be virtually vibration-free and quiet. Features include a separate radiator, an electric fan, and average fuel consumption of one-tenth to two-tenths of a gallon per hour. The UCRV1-3.5 generator is priced at $3,695.www.nextgenerationpower.com

(g)The generator is a necessary evil for most, including my MB "Yonder", with its 2 battery banks and 400 watt solar array. I've read of some RV owners who forego the genset
Re: Quick dimension question Reply #5 – August 05, 2005, 10:26:25 am Yahoo Message Number: 56479I sincerely hope LD does, but I kinda agree about when. Here's a message I got from Next Generation Power. Sound specs are wonderful for the ME version, putting it's sound not much louder than the sound of a running A/C unit. unfortunately it's a little taller and longer because of the sound enclosure: 17 X 17 X 34............................................. The UCRV1-3.5 is a non enclosed unit with a remote mountable radiator @ approx 80db used
