What make/model is the one that goes right in as the replacement for the factory unit.  Someone said that it was about $200.

The factory converter unit has changed a lot over the years. The earlier ones could charge at the dismal rate of something like 10 amps, while the latest ones can provide 50 amps, monitor the battery state of charge, and switch down to a trickle or maintenance mode.
(This is not to say the newer converters used by LD are as high tech or efficient as compared to the 3-stage, high-output chargers that are on the market. Also, they are not temperature compensated by monitoring battery temperature directly).

I have a "new" 2005 converter for sale, as removed from Yonder when installed a Prosine 2000. Will sell for half new cost + shipping.
That said, there are things I'd recommend prior to spending a bunch of money for a high-tech battery charger or converter replacement . . . that is, unless you have hook-ups much of the time or don't mind running the generator to charge batteries - - neither option appealed to me!
If you are interested in a "whole house" inverter, one that provides AC power to outlets without running the generator, then some of these come with an excellent battery charger included. The Prosine 2000 has a 100 amp 3-stage charger.
Solar is another way to go. A good solar system can pretty much negate the need to *ever* burn gasoline to charge the batteries. "Yonder", my 26 MB, has 400 watts of solar panels. This translates to having a battery charge rate of 25 amps available most days. Yup, maybe a bit over-the-top, but the batteries have always been fully charged before noon. The "excess" solar capacity means the system will work effectively on winter or cloudy days too.

all the best,
