Pickup Report-30TB (Long)
Yahoo Message Number: 50814
We picked up our 2005 30TB Motorhome on February 2nd.  Lazy Daze had promised nine months ago to "...build [us] a beautiful coach."  They made good on that promise.  Steve and Ed and all the gang at the factory can take pride in the work they do.  This was our second LD and the pickup went flawlessly just like our previous experience.
Dave was responsible for our PDI and he is a welcome addition to the staff.  He had gone over the coach the day before to make sure that everything was ship-shape, ready for delivery, and that all of the options were provided as ordered.  Dave is good at his job.  He has rv experience and a good sense of humor.  If he doesn't know the answer he will tell you that he doesn't know and he will see that you get the answer before you leave. Our PDI was enjoyable.  The only significant discrepency I could find was that I sat slightly to the right of vertical when seated in the driver seat.  Dave tried it and agreed.

Dianna had all the documents assembled in her office and ready for signature and they were right the first time.  She went above and beyond the call of duty by helping us with our registration for our home state of Washington.  This is obviously not part of her job but she did all that and more.  She is a real treasure.  While we were completing the paperwork and drinking coffee, Tim and Vince replaced the front seat and Dave loaded the six boxes we had shipped to Montclair via UPS.

I was pleased to find that at least in our coach, the previous standard shower faucet fixture with the troublesome plastic knob has now been replaced with a simple control that produces water through and only through the shower wand. That seems like a plus to me.

Our gas gage showed approximately 1/3 full when we took posession and this reflected 25 gallons in the tank which is actually close to half full.  This is the same as our experience two years ago with our 2003 RB.  That seems generous to me, given the price of gasoline in California. I mention this only because the subject has come up several times.

We made our next stop at the Camping World facility in La Mirade CA.  I took the advice of "Scott 94 26U270" of this forum and made an appointment with technician "Hugo Ramirez."  Hugo was as good as Scott promised.  He installed a NaturePure water fileter system, a REMCO lube pump contol mechanism on the dash of our new LD and ran the necessary wiring back to a new six way electrical connection for our toad.  We didn't have the toad with us at Camping World but when we got the two of them together again it all worked.  I would recommend Hugo Ramirez to others and in fact we found the entire staff at the La Mirada Camping World to be uncommonly competent and helpful.  I will make a note in the files section.

Our next stop before leaving the LA area was to have the front end aligned.  I know that it is recommended to wait and let the front end settle a bit and watch carefully for front tire wear and all of that but I had waited a bit too long on our previous LD and I was anxious to get it done. It was found that the "toe" was well outside of manufacturer's recommendation.  I think that was money well spent as I am not experiencing the "bump steer" condition that I complained about two years ago.  I also had metal valve stems installed.  Much has already been written on that subject and can be found in the files of this discussion group and I won't add to it here.

We drove up to the Central California Coast to play and to log 1000 miles on the drivetrain before returning to Montclair to pickup our toad.  This break-in procedure is stated in the owners manual. We found so many things to do and see in this beautiful area that we had several days where we put only a very few miles on the motorhome.  Even today, two weeks after pickup, sitting here at Vandenberg AFB we have only 800 miles on the odometer.  We are averaging 8.8 miles per gallon which is about one half mile per gallon less than we got when our RB was new and driven under similar circumstances.

We have experienced no problems with any of the systems in the coach.  We have nothing on our list to talk to LD about when we get back to Montclair this weekend.  Only the smoke alarm has been bothersome.  It is hyper sensitive to the gasses and particles that are common to a new motorhome.

I will have more to add to this tomorrow but my laptop battery is getting low and some may have lost interest.

Until then, I will just say that we are enjoying our new baby and look forward to owning it many years.

Nate Walker Well away from Tacoma.

Hi Nate, Congratulations and thanks for the detailed pick up report.  I've been watching for your pick up report since we ordered our 30'TB about the same time you did.  We did not wait for the new chassis, so got ours in October '04.

Don't you just LOVE the floor plan!  I like our TB so much better than the MB (our former LD model.)  Those extra few feet really do pay off in terms of livability.

Did you get the new solar panels and controller?  Have you had a chance to "try out" the new transmission yet -- especially the engine braking feature?

BTW, have you figured out the purpose of that little shelf behind the toilet?  When we raise the shelf, we can't raise the lid on the toilet all the way vertical, so basically the shelf is useless.  Have they done something different on the newer models?

Chris, we have found the shelf to be very useful when the toilet is not in use.   When "primping" in the toilet room, it holds my toilet articles, glasses, hot coffee, etc.   As for my wife, it holds her make-up items, hair dryer, etc.

Nate, congratulations on the new 30TB!  That was a great pick up report.  I hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours.  What colors did you choose?

Nate

Glad to hear all is well with your new 30TB. I plan to stop at the factory in the next day or two and take a closer look at the 30'er.
We are also interested in the twin bed option. It seems perfect for us. I have one question, with the twin beds, do you still get the 60 gallon water tank? I know the water tank is under the IB. Also is the tow capacity on the 30'er still 4,000 lbs?

I am glad Hugo at Camping World worked out. He did do great work on our 26 RB.
