Yonder's solar system

Hi all,

Well I'm not quite done, still have the Prosine 2000 inverter/charger to install. I did get the 4 Shell 80 watt panels mounted. For those planning to add more solar, there's actually room for 5 of these 47 X 21 inch panels on a 26 MB (though I'll probably stick with 4).

I mounted the solar panels without drilling through the roof.
Instead I used 2 X 2 aluminum angle to make full width mounts, two aluminum angles per end to make a "C" channel. I course sanded the aluminum bonding surface, then used phosphoric acid to etch it.
Cleaned the roof with alcohol, but didn't remove the paint in the area to be bonded. Used PL polyurethane construction adhesive to do the deed. Seems very strong indeed. If there is a weak link, it would be the original paint bond to the roof. I think it is strong though, and the load is spread over a good area. Road tests went well, and a 900 mile road test starts tomorrow!

Sure don't want to be picking up little pieces of solar panel off the roadway (g).

all the best,
