Just got a letter from Good Sam ERS saying the following: Important: Please Verify Receipt of your new good sam RV Emergency Road Service Cards.
It has a sheet that has a check box Yes - I received my new Cards..... My dues payment is enclosed.
No - I did not receive my new cards. My dues is enclosed, please cancel the card previously sent and rush me a replacement card.

I did not receive cards and I have not paid for next year yet.
 I was waiting because the group had a post that says they will offer you a better deal at the last minute.
 There was some previous discussion that Affinity Road & Travel Club may be in financial difficulty and go under.

Is the above an example of what they are doing to drum up business?
 Is there a reasonably price option to them - other than AAA's higher price?

Thanks in advance,

 You might try Coach Net.  I believe they're "around" the same price as Good Sam...they do have different levels of membership.
 I wouldn't touch AAA's RV ERS with a long stick...they don't offer that service in all areas of the country, so if you have a breakdown in an area where AAA doesn't offer their RV ERS, you'll be SOL.

Also, understand that Good Sam's emergency road service and the road service from Camping World,"Roadcare", are *both* provided by Affinity Road and Travel Club. because they are both owned by Affinity Group, Inc. GS emergency road service and CW emergency road service are virtually the same; two eggs, one nest.
 You might want to look in the archives for discussions on using AAA for emergency road service coverage for your RV; this topic has been covered in depth in the past.  The link to the archives is in the introductory paragraph on the home page of the LD message board.
 As Linda suggests, look at Coach-Net; the program has many satisfied subscribers.

I agree with Lynda.  Go with Coach-Net.  You may have to join FMCA or some other similar group first though.  Go to their website to see a list of affiliated groups.  You may already belong to one.

I stopped using Good Sam years ago when I found out they wouldn't provide services if I had a problem while at a dog show (which is not uncommon for me).  In there eyes, I would be considered using my RV for commercial purposes and therefor not elligible for service.  So, to show my displeasure for their policy, I choose to get my service from someone else.

Hope that helps,

-Victor

 I don't believe belonging to some group is a pre-requisite for signing up with Coach Net.  The only thing belonging to a group does is give you a discounted rate, at least for the first year.

Earlier this year they had a sale going that you got the discount even if you were not a member and applied it to one to three years depending on how many you were signing up for.  I only found out about the discount because I called them to ask some questions.  I don't know if the sale is still going.  I signed up in March.

 Good Sam has mailed out millions of "pre-approved' memberships cards over the years; I know I've gotten (and shredded) my share. There's nothing illegal about the practice, any more than it's illegal to mail out "pre-approved" credit cards, but it always struck me as somewhat shabby. Sounds as if they're applying the same tactics to their road care service. "Check box A to say yes, or check box B if you want to subscribe."
 "Is there a reasonably price option to them - other than AAA's higher price?"
 Oh, lord--stay away from AAA for RVs! We've been over this before--search the archives for details--but from many experiences I've read over the years, it's clear that they are 1) unwilling to provide RV coverage in every state, even if you pay extra for it; and 2) ill-equipped to deal with 5-10 ton vehicles.
 The most often recommended service is CoachNet. I subscribe, but have not yet had to use them. Others who have say good things about them, though, and Escapees endorse them, which carries a lot of weight with me. One thing I like about CoachNet is that all their telephone people are trained RV techs--not just underpaid phone operators like the other services.

Yes! Amen to this. A couple of weeks back I had a situation where my LD failed to start. It was turning over but after about 20 attempts to start it, my battery was wearing down so I called my Good Sam ERS. I don't know about the underpaid part (probably ;>)  ), but she was definitely just a phone operator who knew little or nothing about RVs or probably anything else mechanical for that matter. During the 20 minutes or so I was trying to converse with her I had already made up my mind not to renew this with company. I have done some Googling research and have decided to try CoachNet next time.
 I managed to remain civil during the frustrating phone call. I don't blame the operator as she was probably following company instructions and doing her best. BTW, just as she told me she was going to call for a tow, I told her to hold on and I would try it one more time. It started.

Thank you for the responses. I emailed Coach-Net and asked them if they also covered the cars that my wife and I drive when we are not in the motor home. I( hope the answer is yes.

I don't hold a brief for Good Sam ERS, only that we've had it for years, used it twice, and they came through like champs both times.
First one here:

(Scroll down to the bottom.)

Then here:

Of course, YMMV.

--- This was my experience; I enrolled with Coach-Net without any group affiliation, but paid "full price" for the first year's subscription and the same for subsequent years.

I've had Good Sam ERS ever since I started RV'ing with my 2001 (new then, LD) I didn't know about Coach Net back then. In any case, I've only used them twice....First time, we trashed the out side passenger dually tire, taking too tight a turn in Old Town Albuquerque, NM on the way home from our initial LD pick-up.....oh, sad! But they came through beautifully. We waited in a parking lot till help showed up, which didn't take long...the spare was put on and we were given directions to a store where we could buy a new spare.
 Second time was for tire advice, when I was  in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan...No one needed to be called out and I think Good Sam  gave good advice. Help would have been a lot farther away then in Albuquerque, though and would have involved a long wait....but not Good Sam's fault.
 I needed help one other time when partner turned off the engine in "drive" instead of "park"then managed to lock up the steering, and the ignition....that time we called the FORD ERS help number! It's in the owners manual,  and they talked us through unlocking everything.
 About Good Sam, the people on the phone may not be techs, but they seemed to have access to techs, at least that was my impression.

Had the same experience with road service, that is part of my Progessive RV insurance. When I lost my keys to my Class C.
The operator who took my call, knew nothing about RVs.
She twice sent the wrong people to help me!

The call center I reached was very disorganized and no one seemed to know what they were doing. I ended up calling my own lock smith, at my own expense. I have a feeling, the road service included in most insurance policies, is only good for a jump start. Anything more, will be a cost to the RVer. So you should really have separate coverage, from Good Sam, Coach-Net, or some other RV organization.

We've had Good Sam for years and used them three times.  Twice for tows on a disabled car [WI] and a disabled pickup truck [MN].  The third time was for gas [OK, I ran out in WY thinking there was gas at the intersection of I-80 and some other road].  Very satisfied with the response.

~~~~~~~~ Just a reminder to those folks with a Lazy Daze purchased new from the factory:  There's no need to purchase ERS insurance for three years or 100,000 miles -- emergency road service is provided under your Ford Service warranty during that period of time.  When mine expired, I purchased the insurance from Coach Net, which BTW, was the provider used by Ford when I needed it last.
Our one phone call to Ford when we had a flat got a service out for us. However, they will only cover $100 for that so I paid $50 out of pocket.
That's true, as long as you are within so many feet of a paved road.
Does anyone know if Coachnet has a similar requirement? We boondock, most of the time.
A few days ago, we were four miles down a dirt road in a National Park. The closest services were 40-odd miles away.
Here is a direct quote from the Coachnet brochure.
"It does not cover recovery of a vehicle subjected to a natural disaster, a vehicle submerged in water or a vehicle not on a maintained road."
I am not sure how they define a maintained road.
I would define it as a road where there is a posted sign stating that maintenance stops here. But, that would be my definition. That definition seems to provide more coverage than being within a certain number of feet from a paved road as Ford does. BTW, I got that from a service rep, it's not in the warranty manual.
Thanks for the info Monti!
--- I'm not, either, and since I have Coach-Net and am sometimes on roads which might stretch the definition of "maintained", I emailed them and asked.  When/if I receive a reply, I will post it.
