Upgraded solar system

Eudoro,
Thanks for posting the info about the upgrade on the solar system!  Does this mean we folk who are anxiously awaiting our new LD's, automatically will get the new LD solar system (if we ordered a solar system)?
Also, thanks for defining SOB.  I thought it meant something else.  How silly of me!
Thanks, Joan, for your two-part (soon to be three-part story).  I enjoyed reading it and learned a few things, too.
A query:  "What constitutes a $50 change to an order?  I'm thinking of asking LD to not install the clock, as well as the curtains at the front of the unit.  Didn't know this was a possibility when Ed and I were putting my order together.

Pam:

When I ordered my LD and wanted to make some changes, one of the employees at LD suggested that I make all of the changes at one time. Thus, incurring a one-time $50 charge.

Otherwise, a charge will be levied with each change. I suspect this system is still in place.

Pam:

It seems to me that yor new LD will get the new system.

If you didn't ordered solar panels, or ordered just one, (Ed, in his characteristical way, have been saying to buyers "you din't need two", and it was the old 85w panel, without the MPPT controller), I strongly suggest to order two panels, unless you plan to use your LD only in weekends...
I am seeying many of our members who got the old system with the two panels, upgrading their systems with extra panels, and/or MPPT controllers. Others are also finding ways to adapt more batts.
This is a personal opinion, but I think that more (and better) panels are more important than more batts, since if your system is really capable, it will normally recharge what you spent of electricity at night, plus, in a "on going" way. I will discuss this in a specific posting, still today, in detail.

About the items you want to delete (and I agree fullheartedly with these deletions), I imagine that it makes sense that, since these items cost money to the Newtons, you won't get a discount and your LD isn't in production yet, that it makes sense (to me, at least) not to be charged for the dletion of these items.

Please read my specific solar/batts post today before you ask some changes, because you can pay just one "change fee" for everything you want to change.

Actually, both are important. The solar system should ideally be sized with the "worst case" scenario in mind, i.e. winter and the ability to replace the average electricity used per day, each day.
Of course this may not always be doable on cloudy days etc. One then makes a compromise, either bigger panels or the knowledge the generator will occasionaly be needed (which it may will be in any case - - the question being how often).

A larger battery system is what will carry you through on those cloudy days. Also, depending on usage, a larger battery system means that on average the battery bank will not be discharged so deeply and this means longer battery life. In any event, the battery bank needs to be sized large enough to "capture" all that energy your solar panels will make. If your smaller battery bank is fully charged before noon, most all the rest of the day's energy is wasted.

Many of the on-line solar sites have sizing info.
I think LD's switch to bigger is commendable. Given all the requests for bigger (I started a year ago), I also think it was late in coming and was the reason I paid $50 to cancel my factory 2 panel install.

all the best,
