busy january (and the no email option)

One of the interesting features (well, to me anyway) of the group's home page on Yahoo is the count of how many messages were posted each month.  To see the monthly totals, scroll to the bottom of the page at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/lifewithalazydazerv/

It turns out that January 2005 was the third most active month in the group's short history, with 1687 messages posted.  That's more than 50 a day!

If you're feeling a little overwhelmed by the volume of email, consider changing your Yahoo option so you view the list online instead.  Here's how.

1. Point your web browser to http://groups.yahoo.com
2. Click on the "Sign in" button in the upper left of the page
3. Enter your Yahoo account name (mine is oryoki2000) and password
4. Once logged in, click on the "My Groups" button on the right of the  screen
5.  Now click on the "Edit My Groups" button at the top of the page
6.  You should now be looking at a list of all the Yahoo groups that  you have subscribed to.  Scan down the list for the group labeled  "lifewithalazydazerv"  That's us.

7.  Scan to the right on the "lifewithalazeydazerv" line to the column  labeled "Message Delivery"  Click on the down-pointing arrow to the  right of "Message Delivery" to display the list of delivery options.

8. If you don't want to receive the group's email, select "No Mail"  If you select "Daily Digest" you'll receive one big message each day  containing the text of the 50 or so messages posted.

9.  Click on the "Save Changes" button to record your new message
 delivery preference.
 10.  You're done.  Click on "lifewithalazydazerv" to go to the group web pages, or just click on "Sign out" at the top left of the screen to say goodbye.
It sometimes takes Yahoo a day or two to make the change, so don't be alarmed if you get a few more messages in email.

Setting your email option to "No Mail" is useful when you're travelling and don't want to download hundreds of messages.  When you're back home, follow the steps above, but select "Individual Emails" as the delivery option to resume getting messages by email.
When I first started using a web browser to read the group's messages, I was annoyed by the ads that Yahoo includes with the message text.  I worked around this problem by switching to the Firefox browser and employing the free "Adblock" extension.  But that's a topic for another time.
