pickup report

Well, the 20th finally came and we showed up at LD at the appointed 1230 checkout time.  Dave the "new-old guy" did our delivery pickup.
Very thorough, professional, and very friendly.  Dave passed on tips all along the way during the 3-hour review of every nut-and-bolt on our new "baby-daze".  Much appreciated!  When LD warns you that you will go through a thorough familiarization they are not kidding!
Everything worked great (exception the night light that Tim fixed in a matter of minutes).  I think we looked real close, but no defects noted and all systems functioned as advertised.  We spent the time from the "call" to pickup as most of you do/have done bracing ourselves for finding "something wrong".  But in the end LD came through with another perfect pickup.

Then it was out the parking lot. Note to newbe's: take the drive to the right closest to the store.  We did, after some weeks before watching as a somewhere close to new 26ft bottomed out going out the northern most driveway out of the parking lot.  We packed up that night at home (Huntington Beach) then the next morning off to Lake Havasu for a shake-down trip.  If you need to "shake down" an RV go down the I-40.  What a torn up road!  We picked Havasu because this time of year it is mostly deserted.  We weren't disappointed.
Bottomline, nice trip, LD worked flawlessly, we returned home smiling.
Recommendation:  if you have your choice of taking either the I-10 or I-40 into LA, split the difference and take highway 62 instead.  We enjoyed the road.

Baby-daze is now in her parking spot at the RV lot, an unacceptable alternative to parking at home but unavoidable in most of the LA basin.  Hope to see you all on the road.  We'll be monitoring the CB on channel 30 if you pass a blue RK on the road in SOCAL.

Mark and Louene,

Congratulations on your new LD pickup.  I'm glad it went well.

My opinion is that the Channel 30 is more for LD get-together occasions.  I think you are more likely to connect with an LD on the road on channel 19, which is at least what I am monitoring as I drive along.  This is the most likely channel to get road information and sometimes amusing trucker conversation.

That having been said, I have never been able to contact any of the few LDs we have passed going the other way.  They are there and gone pretty fast.
