Problems with Yahoo?
Yahoo Message Number: 48474
Anyone else having problems in receiving emails from Yahoo on this group?
For about the past week or so, many of my posts take hours to show up, when normally they show up within a few minutes.
Also, I've been receiving ANSWERS to posts before the QUESTIONS appear.
Makes for very confused reading!
Andy, do you know if there's something going on at Yahoo that would cause this?  It seems to be a fairly recent problem.

This is a long shot, but check and see if you have an e-mail filter set up to block e-mails with certain words.  When those certain words are in the e-mail, your server will reject the e-mail.  When Yahoo gets a rejection, it stops sending e-mails to you.  That's happened to me several times with e-mail from this site and you have to go into the site and tell Yahoo to send you an e-mail that you reply to in order to turn e-mail from the group back on.  Sounds crazy, but the word "body" gets e-mails at the place I work rejected.

You've got me. I don't see any abnormal posting delays (typical times are less than five minutes), but then I work through the website, not email. I did get a private email yesterday from a member who is not getting digest emails from any of several Yahoo groups, so perhaps there is something screwy going on...all I can say is that I haven't seen any sigs of it myself.

We've had identical problems.  It may in part be a Yahoo problem because it has taken hours for some of my posts to show up at the web site and hours more before it comes as email.  As someone suggested, they could be checking for inappropriate language before things are posted on line.
Instant communication it is not!

Other times it is just a matter of seconds.
Road Runner, our ISP, is aggressive in removing viruses/worms in the email.  When the volume of emails gets heavy they could be bogging down and delaying the email.

You mean words like "tire stem," "polish," "diesel"...or perhaps "Yahoo problem"? ;-) Yeah, filtering out that last one could certainly slow things down! LOL!

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'm not sure that's the problem, though, since I'm still receiving emails -- they just aren't in order of posting (answers to questions received *before* the post with the question) and some of my posts take hours to show up rather than minutes.  However, if I should all of a sudden stop receiving emails entirely, I'll know where to look!

Andy, you would only see the problems if you were receiving posts via email.
Roger Falk's posting with questions about the Caravan Club, for instance, which was dated yesterday around 2 PM, didn't make it to my computer until sometime after I turned off my computer last night at around 9 PM -- BUT I received your answer to him yesterday afternoon!
It's currently 11:10 AM MST -- I'll see how long it takes for this post to show up in my mail box (sometimes they show up quickly, sometimes not for several hours).

Showed up here within minutes.  BTW I have noticed the same problem - getting replies to posts before the posts arrive.

That is indeed very odd. Roger's post showed up on the website yesterday in midafternoon--otherwise I would not have seen it and replied to it, obviously--so I can't understand why Yahoo would echo my message to you right away, but delay passing along his. Obviously something screwy is going on, but I can't guess what. Maybe Yahoo's techs are on Christmas vacation, and it will get fixed after the new year. ;-)

Yahoo groups doesn't always work and play well with all Internet Service Providers.  Some it rarely has problems with and with others it frequently has problems.  It's not unusual for one person's message to be delivered promptly and another person's message to not show up for hours or a day or more, depending on the ISP.  Generally the situation gets resolved in a day or two, but sometimes it takes a little longer.
This isn't an unusual situation though.

Hi. I'm one of those persons with frequent Yahoo problems. Twice now, over the last few months I have stopped receiving Yahoo email, both from this site and another. Turns out one or more were bounced, whatever that means, and for whatever reason I dont know. When this happons then they are stopped by Yahoo. My ISP knows nothing about it and assures me my email account with them is 100% OK. They say further, they don't even think my Yahoo emails come through their server at all. They think I get Yahoo email directly from Yahoo mail servers to my computer.(???) In both cases I emailed Yahoo administrators several times. I never received a reply from Yahoo, but my email resumed after a couple of days in both cases. The second of these cases was about three or four week ago. As soon as email resumed that time, I began receiving doubles of each email for a couple of days. Then triples. Finially I began getting four copies of each. Then without my doing anything, all that nonsense stopped, and I was back to singles again, and ever since.

I also went through a period where some of the emails were delayed for hours. I also received some posting which were answers to questions which had been previously posted, but which I received the next day.
After two  or three days of this, without me doing anything about it, this stopped as well.

Yes, in my experience, the problem is almost always on the Yahoo side.
Generally there is nothing wrong with your email account or your ISP's server when these problems arise, and often waiting it out is the only (and many times the best) resolution.  I know that people with AOL email accounts often have Yahoo Groups email problems.  You'll see duplicates of your message post, you'll see nothing for a while and then all of the missing messages showing up at once, or you'll see a variety of other weird occurrences, and eventually the problem seems to just resolve itself.

Let's be charitable and assume that perhaps they didn't understand your question, because their answer makes little if any sense. The fact that your posts show up here with a 'whidbey.net' email address (which is the domain of your ISP, Whidbey Telecom) proves that is the email address Yahoo associates with you...hence, Yahoo is sending emails to you at whidbey.net, where they must be processed by your ISP's mailserver.
None of this meant to exonerate Yahoo, which as we all know can be pretty screwy at times...but their claim that Yahoo is somehow magically sending email straight to your computer without them being involved just doesn't hold water. If they glanced at their mailserver logs, they'd know better.
