Was nose to bill with a varied thrush thanks to the no see windows.
Makes a great blind which I hadn't realized before. Helps to be practically in a tree.  Cheers,  SC

We should GTG for coffee in Oak Harbor. BTW, saw my very first varied thrush on Whidbey Island last week, right out the front window of my house. It and its mate were sitting in a holly tree with robins and red-wing blackbirds, all watching a huge flock of starling. I think they fear the starlings. At the same time, nearby in a bush, were a pair of northern flickers. What a treat.

I am entranced by the goldfinches, which I shamelessly lure to my yard with very expensive nijer seed. We spent last weekend at Pinto Lake, near Watsonville, CA, and saw many, many ducks and geese...some new to us. There was a very oddball bonded pair: a regular barnyard goose and a Canada goose, absolutely in lockstep with each other. Also a pair of cormorants, plenty of mallards, a few snowy plovers, and some very pretty black and white ducks with red eye circles (on what I assume were males only). We always keep a bird book and two pairs of binoculars in the RV.

Well, Sonsie, after all, it *is* Santa Cruz; "oddball pairs" are SOP! ;>)
