The homemade apron that I mentioned in post #47289 is shown in the "Photos" section; it's photo #54 titled "Engine c…."  (Engine cover apron) – don't know who made this/posted the photo.  My design is similar, but with only one "tier" of pockets.  Also, the picture doesn't show how the apron is attached to the doghouse – maybe using the snaps that Andy mentioned?

We got an apron type holder - made for the back of bucket seats - at Brookstone.  It works great, even has room for a WalMart Atlas.  You can see pictures of it in the Photos section under Jonna's Tortuga, the pics are called Seat Back Organizer.  I used velcro tabs to hold the strap on the drink holder and it hangs straight down from that and is out of the way for the passenger getting into the front seat - that was important to me.
Jonna, still boondocked at a small park in Guadalajara.  I signed up for spanish classes at the U of G downtown and we will be here at least another week.

One manufacturer of "organizers" and other car products is Axius --
 http://axius.com/html/products/products.htm

The web site lists suppliers, but I've seen their products at Target, Wal*Mart, K-Mart, The Container Store, travel and luggage stores, and auto supply stores and service centers.  They're also available online; google "Axius" and several product sources will come up.

I tried draping/attaching two of the the organizers (the back seat one and a "beside the seat type"), over the cup holder by its strap; neither worked for me.  Whatever was in the organizer pockets would often "catch' while I was trying to get it out and lift the whole outfit.  Putting something back was the same hassle in reverse; trying to lift a flap and shove whatever back in the pocket while driving required more hands than my original equipment.  It would make a difference to have another pair of hands to retrieve and replace the contents, so if the organizer things do the job for you, great -- they're cheap and will last forever. I'll just custom-make one and hope it works. ;-)  YMMV

I planned to get a Doghouse skirt. In the mean time, I got those visor storage things. They hold cd's & paperwork, pens, sunglasses, the radio remote, maps, etc. I also find myself using the LD cup holders for storage, so I bought cupholders that hook onto the heat/AC vents. I like them, but Jim took his off & threw it on the floor in back. so, he gets to hold his drink between his legs. ]:) We might not end up getting a skirt, the visor storage units have been enough so far.

Matter of fact, the ones I have (purchased at "Ollie's Good Stuff Cheap" in south central Pennsylvania for $5.99 apiece :-) are Axius brand. I tried to find them on the web, but somehow overlooked the obvious www.axius.com. They're very nicely made, with a variety of fabric and mesh pockets, elastic loops and so on.

Joan, the apron in the photo #54 was made by my wife for our 89 26.5 RB which we sold last May to another member of this group. I fastened it to the doghouse by removing the wood top surface, then slipped the edge of the apron in between the wood and the doghouse and screwed the wood back down to the doghouse. I removed the apron when we sold the LD, but the buyer wanted to know where it went when he came for the LD. So we gave it to him, but I don't know if he reinstalled it or not. If he sees this he may comment.

We're still working on what to do with our "stuff" in our 04 23.5 FL. If we come up with something worthwhile, I'll post it.
Tom.

Joan,

Ours doens't have 'flaps', the pockets are zippered closed but we never close them so they are gapped open all the time.  It isn't a problem getting stuff

Thanks for the information, Tom.  Your attachment method won't work for the new(er) LDs -- you know this if you have a 2004! ;-)  Did you find that your design was easy to use?  Any suggestions as to design modifications?  Thanks for any input.

Guess I didn't have enough ballast in the pockets to prevent lift- off!

Tom,
I'm still using Helen's apron it to hold all the "stuff" we seem to need.
I'm now using velcro strips attached to the apron and the edge of the wood trim. This way I can take it off quickly if if I have to open the dog house.

Tell Helen that I still think there's a market out here for her product :)

PS I did a MPG test up to Chico and Back over Thanksgiving.

From Burlingame to Dixon at traffic speeds (up to 65 mph) 6.40 MPG.
Dixon to Chico with speed control set at 55 and into the wind...6.4 MPG.
Chico to Vacaville...7.01 at 57MPH on speed control and with the wind behind me.

Everyone in Chico was very impressed with the quality of a 1989 LD.

Meanwhile
I'm replacing the house batteries with Trojans 105 and adding a solar charge controller (keeping your on and off switch) and having Camping world rewire the 7300 as you had it, so I can control when to charge the house batteries.
The Camping World tech said to pull one of the 30 amp circuit breakers if the weather is hot when plugged into shore power. But I like your solution with a simple on/off switch.
The more I think about it and in reviewing the owners manual, I think that I boiled the house batteries on the trip to Grass Valley in July.
Hot weather, the Solar panels plus being plugged in to shore power combined with a new owner.
Does your new owners manual caution owners about using the 7300 charging cycle in hot weather for extended periods?

Also a product that needs doing... a universal invertor/charger/converter with a digital timer and the appropriate read outs that would control all electrical power coming into the coach, whether from the engine, solar, shore or generator with On, OFF and AUTO positions.

That's enough for now.

Barry,

My LD is a 1989, and as they say "yours may vary".
Unless its time for new glass's and from what CW told me I maybe have two 30 amp circuit breakers(?), remember that my 7300 was an upgrade from a 6300(?) series and that might explain the difference.

I'll take a look on Friday as I'm taking it in to CW for the solar upgrade and HWH leveler service and will post my findings.

Does anyone in the group really take this trouble for short-term camping hookups?  (I do make provision for long-term storage by using a timer on the shore power.)

We have never done this either, and all of our RVs have had solar power.
Now, maybe this is something peculiar to the 7300 series controller in the LD, but we have our LD plugged into electricity next to our house in Quartzsite and have not pulled any fuses.  Of course, it's not hot here in the winter.  But even when we're traveling in the summer and are hooked up to electricity in an RV park, we don't pull any fuses. We do check our battery water level frequently, though (made very simple with the ProFill water battery system), so I think that probably alleviates the problem of having the batteries boil dry.
Just as a side note -- our LD owners manual says to check the battery water levels 3 or 4 times a year.  If you have solar panels, though, this isn't nearly enough!  With solar panels, battery water levels should be checked AT LEAST once per month, if not more often.  We check ours at least every other week.

I finally added a power switch to the our Mag. 7300.  Since we have solar panels and a battery monitor, I leave the 7300 turned off most of the time when we are camping.  It gets turned on only when we are getting well down in charge and the sun is not cooperating.

Jerry,

I showed Helen your message, but she isn't interested in making us rich. (:>) She's busy coming up with a new apron for the 04 LD.
Version # 2 is in process.

By the way, your levelers are Kwikees, not HWH.

Yes, it worked great for about 14 years, and now Jerry is getting some use out of it.
When Helen comes up with another winner, I'll post another photo.

Tom........I have a 23.5 FL and instead of an apron, I use a plastic partitioned box with a handle down the middle (can't think what you call them.) In it I can carry all the things that you might put in an apron,  a small clipboard, handwipes, pen, paper, sun  glasses, maps,  radio remote and sundry items.  This is easy to move around.  If I need to get to the back, I just move it out of the way.   When parked, I can move it out of sight.  Works for me.

This box (I call it a carpenter's or plumber's tool box) works great if the floor space between the seats isn't taken up with the dog bed!
