privacy concerns with yahoo

Hello Everyone,
I found the following information on another yahoo group I belong to. Thought you all might appreciate it too.

Just an FYI for all of you using any Yahoo groups.

Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are going - similar to cookies. Yahoo is recording every website and every group you visit. You can read more about the privacy policies on this page.

http://privacy.yahoo.com/
To opt out of these web beacon cookies that track your every move, go to this page.
 http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/beacons/details.html

Go to the paragraph entitled "Outside the Yahoo Network."

In this section you'll see a little "click here to opt out" link that will let you "opt-out" of their new method of snooping.

Once you have clicked that link, you are exempted.

Notice the "Success" message on the top of the next page.
Be careful because on that page there is a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if clicked, will *undo** the opt-out.

Feel free to forward this information to other groups.

Regards,

Livia

Thanks for the heads-up on Yahoo.

Exactly my thoughts.  I don't go anywhere that I'm ashamed of.  I realize that there's not such thing as a free lunch.  That doesn't mean I don't appriciate being informed, I do.  I just prefer that type of payment to cash. evelyn, of The LazyBluRose

I chose not to opt out, but would be interested in other views.

I did choose to opt out.  As I see it, it's just more people who have your email address and will send you spam.  I get enough of that stuff already without willingly asking for more.
In addition to the opt-out for outside sources, I've also gone into my Yahoo profile and unchecked all the boxes in the "Marketing Preferences" -- items for which Yahoo can send you emails.

Set up a Yahoo email account and only use it for the group you are posting in.

Linda & Earl,

As I understand it, this is just collecting statistical data, and does not reveal your email address to anyone.  To quote from their web site:

"This aggregate information may include demographic and usage information.
No personally identifiable information about you is shared with partners from this research. "
I may be naive, but I wouldn't think Yahoo would say this if it were a lie.
