Re: Onan HGLBA 4kw inverter generator to ship April 1, 2024 Reply #1 – November 09, 2023, 06:45:57 pm All I can say is it is about time. Small motorcycles and ATVs have had fuel injection for years. The inverter upgrade should mean quiet operation when loads are low, engine RPMs are directly proportional to the power needs.Amazing that neither Honda nor Yamaha ever designed a 4000-watt RV generator.Larry
Re: Onan HGLBA 4kw inverter generator to ship April 1, 2024 Reply #2 – November 09, 2023, 07:13:32 pm Hi Larry; Honda did make one. TELE-LITE's Honda EV4010 RV Generator but the extra concern about freezing in subzero weather and antifreeze coolant was an issue. They are still available, but lo-tech. Made in about 1998. HONDA EV 4010 RV GENERATOR | eBay . There is no reason except cost that they couldn't be much quieter, catalytic converted, computer controlled and fuel injected. With electronic inverter technology the gasoline usage could be much less for small loads too. The extra sound absorption of liquid cooling manifolds and newer muffler technology would benefit the sound levels and exhaust smells associated with RV generators. While they still wouldn't be welcome in some RV parks, they would have been more tolerable. In 24 years I've got about 130 hours on my generator. Mostly used for maintenance runs, the only need was to run the air conditioner in very hot weather. (usually 100+ temps). RonB
Re: Onan HGLBA 4kw inverter generator to ship April 1, 2024 Reply #3 – November 09, 2023, 07:49:57 pm I remember when they first came out. I guess Honda sold the design. They were made for ambulances. When I went to buy one Honda had pulled it off the market. Too large and too heavy to make it in the RV world, I guess. No RV builders picked it up. Had no idea they were still available. I liked the water cooling. When I get my hands on the new one I’ll install it. My KY is dead. Probably be tough to get hold of one but when I get one installed I’ll let you know.Presently using a Honda 2200i. Certainly not as convenient.
Re: Onan HGLBA 4kw inverter generator to ship April 1, 2024 Reply #4 – November 10, 2023, 01:52:19 am Hi Harry; Your KY should be about 178 #. The Honda 4010 is at 202 # is just 24 pounds more. But pretty old technology. An inverter type genset would be quieter most of the time, and should be lighter than the KY or Honda. RonB

Re: Onan HGLBA 4kw inverter generator to ship April 1, 2024 Reply #6 – November 11, 2023, 12:56:28 pm Another advantage of inverter-type generators is clean, well-regulated power. Power from any of the Onan generators is "dirty"--when viewed on an oscilloscope, it shows ragged spikes instead of a smooth sine wave; and line frequency varies depending upon engine RPM, instead of staying at a constant 60 Hz. Neither of these characteristics is great for a lot of appliances, especially ones with a lot of electronics. As Larry said, it's about time!

They still are not shipping. And when they finally become available, the OEMs will likely get them first. They will probably become available right before an inverter A/C shows up.Larry

A new 5th Wheel near us had a super quiet low RPM gen up front as I heard it. Was amazed as it sounded like my EU3000 Honda or even more quiet as it was in a compartment. When I asked the owner he did not really know much about it, didn't offer to open the lid so I kept on my way but knew it had to be one of these types.$4300Cummins Onan A073X541 Cummins RV QG 4000i HGLBA - 4KYFA-26100 - 4.0kW EFI RV...Appears to be about the same foot print as the 4KY models. Re: Onan HGLBA 4kw inverter generator to ship April 1, 2024 Reply #11 – August 15, 2024, 01:36:35 am Onan is no where near shipping to individuals. I have a friend that is an Onan dealer. He has had the order in for sometime. I do believe we will be one of the first to receive one. There is no reason to think we will be able to beat the OEM obligations. When he last called two months ago they hadn’t even started production.I will post when and if I get delivery. The online vendors saying 3 week delivery are blowing smoke. Those shipments are factory direct and the factory is not shipping. The vendors are not lying, they are repeating what they are told. The original ship date was April 12.
