Manual entry step

So lately a rash of mangled entry steps, also in the Caravan Club members group.  I'm glad that Dave Katleman managed to straighten his out enough to work, but others may not. Dave Nordstrom's step looked much worse from what I saw.  I didn't measure mine, but this one from Amazon looks similar. I would have to measure the bolt hole spacing and actual width of the step. This is 20" wide  Amazon.com: Elkhart 120 Single Step black : Automotive
Jaxon might be able to get delivery to his specific location.  Damage to the wood framing and bolts might complicate repairs (Dave N!).      RonB

edited 7/14 to include the other wider 24" wide Elkhart step, also from Amazon:  Amazon.com: Elkhart RV Motorhome Camper Trailer 24" Single Step / 5"...

The Elkhart steps are 20” with a 5.5” drop.  The other brand is a 24” step, same drop.  What size is OEM for a Lazy Daze?

As my original step is long-gone now cavorting with a rock, I am unable to measure it….

Hi Jaxon; To be sure just measure the bolt spacing, or hole spacing if the bolts are gone also. I'll try to measure mine, but the factory door was changed about 2006-2007, and the step platform might have changed too from what I have.  RonB

Thanks,  Ron.  I’ve got one set of bolts on the left (rear), end so measuring is maybe off.  I measured both 20” & 24” and prefer the 24”…. Might order one from Amazon and make it work…. Ours is a 2006.

Coulda been worse.

I have a 2006. It measures 22” between the support braces and 24” outside edge to outside edge of the mounting structure.

Perfect, thanks!  Woke up  contemplating the measurements 🥱, thinking there’s at least 1” each side framing so that gives a 22” step 24” total.

Really helpful info, y’all!

I can find no vendors selling a manual step that looks like my original 2006 step. Does it exist today?

H  Harry;  Kwikee I think made the steps that Lazy Daze used, both the manual and the electric version. Kwikee went out of business about 2009, but I thought the steps were still being made.
Looks like Lippert bought Kwikee, and is still selling them using the Kwikee name. Parts available, and new steps from Amazon. Prices look a bit high to me, but I don't know much about electric steps. I didn't see any manual steps, but I bet the 4 bolt pattern is pretty similar. Should be able to adapt something!    Amazon.com : kwikee step parts     RonB

So… any input on the size drop of the step?    I’m seeing a 2.5” drop and 5” on various 20” wide steps.

Hi Jaxon;  You might want the 2.5" step, it wouldn't remain as easily on rocks being higher up. It wouldn't have much of a step up into the step well of an LD.  Vans and such don't have much of a sill.  Mine, a Kwikee is about 6" below the motorhome, about the same pulled out.  The mounting surface is up higher than the side 'sill' of the LD.
My step width is 22".  There is a pin on each side that slides in the slots. It sticks out about 3/4" on each side and might account for the 24" width mentioned, even though the step itself is narrower. The step is 10" deep.   RonB

The original 2006 manual steps had no drop. They just slide out after lifting up to clear the retaining pin.

Distance from mounting surface to top of step, extended or retracted is 5”

Series 26 or 147 might be close. Prices are incredible.

Obviously the original manual steps are not available.

Hi Harry, agreed! with those price points, the profit margin must be staggering. Manual steps would cut into those profits. Used steps that haven't been mangled must get snapped up quickly.  EBay might have gently used steps.  This HomeOn Wheels manual step looks like an upgrade, and about the same dimensions.  Amazon.com: Homeon Wheels RV Camper Steps Compact One-Hand Expand or...
