Re: Insulating outside storage compartments
The black foam strip that lines to compartment has become detached from one of the out door compartments.   My question is, what type of glue might I use to reattach the black weather stripping?

Most seals come with a covered adhesive that just needs the cover to be removed.  I don’t think the Factory used glue and I didn’t either.   The seals that I replaced 3-4 years ago are still just fine.  Hope this helps.

Hi Chris B;  Most easily, you'll notice a worn out wrinkled 'used to be double stick tape' on the rubber 'D' strip that forms a seal.  Remove that section of tape in the parts where it has come unstuck.   I use alcohol, sometimes a little acetone to clean the rubber strip, and where it will stick to on the white sealing surface.  Use the acetone carefully, it will remove the paint. You want to keep the paint looking like new.
I'm sure Larry's glue is good too, but I use:  white non foaming polyurethane Gorilla glue Amazon.com: Gorilla Clear Glue, 1.75 ounce Bottle, Clear (Pack of 1) :...    (small bottle) to put some on the white sealing surface.  I use blue painters tape to keep the rubber seal in place. I have wood clothes pins to clamp over the tape while I'm doing the entire piece. I take the pins off and close the compartment door to keep the seal in place. About 24-48 hours later I open the compartment door and carefully remove the painters tape.  Be careful not to use too much glue, or get it on other items. It is essentially permanent. Even acetone won't help much after it cures.
I used to use the foaming type, more a wood glue. The part that hits open air will foam, then dry. The foamy parts can easily be removed afterwards without leaving much residue.   Every few months I have a new section to repair, but I'm not motivated to take off an entire compartment worth. Eventually I'll have it all done.  I have a picture I took of a friends red MB.         RonB
