Serial # tag April 15, 2024, 02:02:44 am So I may try Todd to see if there are any leftover blank tags for those of us who might want to freshen up or restore theirs. Or have new ones made. I do have a set of letter and number stamps, but I'll bet Lazy Daze just used an antique typewriter. I thought of trying to start a registry, but I'm not sure how you could replicate a lost tag. Here's one off of Jody and Tracey's Kodiak: It is the Island Bed, I seem to remember that it was the third one built. I don't know the serial numbers of the other two built. I'm sure they told me..... RonB
Re: Serial # tag Reply #1 – April 15, 2024, 08:13:13 pm Pretty sure it'll be a bust on the mission to get a new tag. Tery and Don, who got the 2nd to the last LD didn't get one on their rig and were told by Todd that he couldn't get one for them.
Re: Serial # tag Reply #2 – April 15, 2024, 10:57:39 pm Hello Ron,So your thinking that there were less than 6000 Lazy Dazes made that doesnt seem like that many for all the years they were around. Jody 3 Likes

Considering the Mothership never produced more than 220 rigs a year, 6000 total seem more reasonable. For the last 14 years or so, LD built very few rigs per year, restricted by the limited supply of cutaways caused when Ford shut down one of the E450 production lines during the 2008 meltdown, never reopening it.Larry 1 Likes
Re: Serial # tag Reply #4 – April 16, 2024, 06:47:35 pm Not that I camped out there, but the few times I was there at the factory, It seemed like less than 40 were being worked on at any one time. I ordered ours at the end of August and received it in February. So A bit more than 5 months, true it was over the winter, but that kind of works out to 100 per year. 55 years, about 5500. Deduct some at start up, and very slow production toward the end, as Larry said. The 6000 may be an overestimate. Many of those early motorhomes are no longer with us, a few in Japan, some crashed and others in the Nordstrom barn. (just joking!) edit: and one in Australia...Thanks Hank. My estimate would be fewer than a thousand on the road. Many in the Caravan Club have never heard of LDOG. I have met a discouraging number of owners in southern California, just meeting them in campgrounds, shopping center parking lots, and so on, that also were unaware of LDOG. I estimate 500 in the western states, and 500 in the rest of the US. I'm sure a few are in Mexico and the southern Americas, Canada?. A history of Dodgen , Born Free Factory History is pretty similar at about 300 made per year peak, with 100-120 employees. From about 1968 to 2017. RonBedited to a better estimate of when class 'C' motorhomes were built. Slide in campers and one trailer (Daizy) and one class 'A' not counted.

Ron, according to Andy, LD didn't start manufacturing a class C until 1966, so less than 65 years. From the Pocket Guide:Founded in 1956, Lazy Daze is the oldest family-owned RV builder in the US. In 1966 they created the first class C motorhome, and they're one of only three class Cs to receive 5 stars from the RV Consumer Group. Sadly, in May 2022, Lazy Daze ceased production and no longer exists as a company. noted RB
Re: Serial # tag Reply #6 – April 16, 2024, 09:07:27 pm For what it’s worth…..if LD motorhome serial or sequence numbers are accurate and/or trustworthy indicators on how many were produced over the decades, our 2022 MB is #5702 and , anecdotally, is the next to last one in the sequence numbers of all LDs produced. We believe that the last one, #5703, is owned by folks in the Dakotas. And, ours did not come with a data plate on the driver’s side. As Linda B said, Todd said he couldn’t get us one. 1 Likes
Re: Serial # tag Reply #7 – April 17, 2024, 03:53:27 am Thanks Don, I'll add your number into my records. I guess that missing tag is just one of the things that was unraveling at LD. At least that deer didn't ruin your tag! Jay would be #5703. A friend did have major work on the structure of his 2002 MB and received a 'contract number'. So some in that serial # sequence weren't actually new coaches. So that muddies the water a little. RonB

Re: Serial # tag Reply #9 – April 17, 2024, 09:12:36 pm Ok Ron, I thought I would throw this into your mix. Here's a picture of our tag, ours is a 94 so maybe about the middle of the total production.Jon 1 Likes
Re: Serial # tag Reply #10 – April 18, 2024, 04:17:24 pm Wow if serial number sequence is accurate. That means from our 2018 IB/ delivered in Jan. 2019 with tag #5650, there were only 53 more made after ours. We were very lucky to get one so new. Now I wish I had kept a photo of the tag from our 2001 MB
Re: Serial # tag Reply #11 – April 18, 2024, 04:20:00 pm This thread is interesting. I knew factory production slowed down a lot at the end, but I didn't realize just how much. It's valuable information for setting expectations. If you're waiting for a slightly used, low miles, few year old LD to come up for sale, the odds are stacked against you!Rich

Re: Serial # tag Reply #13 – April 18, 2024, 06:08:07 pm Ha! We are open too. But don’t expect low miles. We are always rolling - no moss gathering here. Ron- For your spreadsheet, you can log our 2015 MB, blue and white swoops and swirls, under serial # 5566. It was delivered 9 yrs ago yesterday. 2 Likes
Re: Serial # tag Reply #15 – April 18, 2024, 09:05:14 pm 2019 Midbath, serial number 5661, delivered June 28, 2019.
Re: Serial # tag Reply #16 – April 18, 2024, 09:35:03 pm That would make 200 in 8 years? Number 5470 in 2011 and 5661 in 2019. Is that correct?That only adds up to 2 a month?T4
Re: Serial # tag Reply #17 – April 19, 2024, 01:19:45 pm 2008 RK - serial number 5363Delivered June 16, 2008
Re: Serial # tag Reply #18 – April 19, 2024, 05:51:25 pm My tag is barely readable. #4334 for my 2003 MB.
Re: Serial # tag Reply #19 – April 19, 2024, 06:19:32 pm Serial numbers can be confusing and rarely have little relevance to actual production. The 2003 has a #4334 and the 2008 has a #5363 suggesting a production value of 1,029 units in 5 years and that breaks down to 4 units per week. Then we have Mike’s in 2020 with #5682 implying LD built 319 in 12 years.Serial are not serial, seriously hahaha.
Re: Serial # tag Reply #20 – April 19, 2024, 08:32:14 pm We ordered our "Villa Verde" rear bath in January 2020 and took delivery of our 2021 RB in September 2020. LD S/N- 5682

Re: Serial # tag Reply #22 – April 20, 2024, 12:51:20 am Olde, It's no secret that production ramped down considerably over the years. Here's the serials/dates I've accumulated so far, feel free to contribute any serial numbers that you've seen which appear out of sequence for the year models.2092 19902301 19912401 19912734 19942804 19943169 19944334 20035303 20075363 20085373 20085393 20095470 20115505 20125510 20135545 20145555 20155566 20155650 20195658 20195661 20195682 20205684 20205702 20225703 2022These don't look like sufficient numbers to sustain an operation that size, I've long speculated that service and repair took a larger role in their business as time went on.Steve
