Plug n Play Soft Start Device
Got your attention didn’t I!!  Just saw this and thought some of you may be interested.  I have no experience with it.  It is $695!  Not sure if it would work with a plug in surge protector.  No more climbing on roof to install capacitor in the a/c unit.

"Got your attention didn’t I!! "

The way I'm reading the issue is that when drawing power from the on-board generator this device would NOT come into play... but only if you were using a 'remote' generator. Does that sound correct? So it's only half useful!   ::)

Their original product, the SoftStartRV, is recommended, it has reduced our LD's A/C  start-up load and clunk, making it possible to start under low voltage conditions. It is much quieter on the few nights we have needed to use it.

The new soft-start is for the entire RV, primarily those with two rooftop A/Cs, not of much use for our rigs., It probably would reduce the microwave's start-up surge, possibly allowing the use of the microwave and A/C simultaneously. on a 30-amp circuit.
Newer inverter microwaves do not have the large startup surge of the older models, soft-start technology is slowly coming to the RV world, after being used in the industrial/commercial world for at least thirty years.

"The new soft-start is for the entire RV,..."

Okay, but to my point, is it of any benefit when using the on-board generator to run the A/C ?  ::)

Hi Steve;  In many RV's, and in many trailers I've seen, the timer automatic buss transfer relay that we have in our Lazy Dazes doesn't happen.  In those trailers/RV's you have to physically plug your shore power cord into your onboard generator outlet, after you start the generator and let it warm up a bit.  For that setup you could use this whole house Soft Start device.
For us in LD's you would need to rewire the generator transfer switch (either shore power or generator) to feed power into this Soft Start device, and out of this device to your power distribution panel (circuit breakers).
This is the similar problem that exists when you are hooking up a power surge/improper wiring protector.  For what those Surge protectors cost, the additional expense of this Whole house Soft Start might be a good idea. I would hope that this device could also perform the same diagnostics on pedestal power to detect incorrect wiring and too low or too high input voltages. They do mention the ability to detect under voltages, and I suspect it wouldn't work if the pedestal was wired incorrectly.  RonB

Yes, but only if it was hardwired between the transfer switch and Power Center.

Nice that the 50amp version came out. I got the 30amp version when it just came out and I have it right before the power gets into the circuit breakers. I don't have a generator but I would have done the same. This unit really helps out. Specially at those RV parks that have a huge voltage drop due to bad wiring.

For anyone interested, just make sure to install between the inverter and circuit breakers. Otherwise those with victron multiplus inverters will find issues since this device will throttle the amps and the inverter will want to supplement the amps from battery and the numbers won't add up right.

For our usage, with only one A/CV, it is more appropriate and cheaper to install a SoftStartRV instead.

I use a pedestal surge protector.  I would have to chain the softstartUp to the surge protector.  That would cause it to lay on ground or create an enclosure to keep it out of water.  Doesn’t seem to be ideal arrangement to me.   My surge protector is lockable.  As Larry stated the soft start is not.

Ideally, any EMS should be hardwired to automate the protection and eliminate thievery.
Besides that, I'm lazy and try to minimize the hassles of setting up and breaking camp.

oh yeah, since this had to go between the circuit breakers and inverter it's practically hardwired inside. plus it helps with the microwave loads apart from AC.
