A Place of Remembrance
The other day Chris Horst helped us remember the passing of Joan Taylor. Some newer people to this Neighborhood might not know anything about her OR the many other LDOs who contributed so much and who have passed away.  I have long thought this Forum needed a permanent section to post information about Members who have passed away.  In my opinion, we have pinned sections for far less worthy topics than a Remembrance Corner.

If the Moderators decide that this suggestion had merit, then I’d suggest that previous posts about Members passing be moved into this section.  Then we’d be able to read the many wonderful tributes made to these Members.

Thank you for your consideration of this suggestion.

The following information belongs in this section of our Neighborhood.

In Memoriam - Ken Fears

Lost a good one last night.

“A sorrowful day" Pat Horst ❤️

Sarah Blackwood ❤️

Andrea Karrow's Passing - Member 3040 of Past Tents ❤️

Mike Sylvester ❤️

Doug Koss ❤️

Gus Weber ❤️

Lisa Sylvester Obituary ❤️

Bill (reciprocityfactor) Haas ❤️

The passing of Bob Moore ❤️

I’ve been using the Search Feature to find the above information.   I’m certain that I’ve missed many of LDOs who have passed away.

Nevertheless I’m hopeful that Members with a better memory or longer memory will help to update this post.

At the least, we now have a way to more easily remember some of our past Members.

While we are throwing out names from long ago I'll test your memories... how many on this board have met, or even heard of, Martha Marks? Martha and Mr. Marks were Lazy Daze folks who traveled around for pleasure and photography. Martha is also a talented historian and author, think 'Ruby of the Viper'.

Martha, her husband and I were good friends and it was they who introduced me to some very fine restaurants in Santa Fe, where they lived.

What say you?

I remember Martha well, although we've been out of touch for a while. She's the former owner of Ed & Margee's Lazy Daze, and as Steve noted, the author of "Rubies of the Viper" and its sequel, "The Viper Amulet"--both very well written and well-researched historical novels set in early first century Rome.

Martha is also a skillful nature photographer whose images have appeared in National Geographic publications, Birder's World, and the Encyclopedia Britannica Online.

Andy is indeed correct.   We emailed with Martha and Bernie for a few years after we purchased their LD.  They were a delightful couple and loved their LD who Martha named BlueCon.   The last time that I heard from Martha, they were doing well.

Martha's personal website has a reference to "my late husband, fine-art painter Bernard Marks," so it looks as if she's solo now.

I remember a posting telling of Lynne Broyles-Greenwood‘s passing in the last year or so. Details were sparse.

One more for the road!

Back in the day, '05, '06, '07, ect. there was one exemplary Wagon Mistress/Ramrod, an organizer extraordinaire, Mariel Gertz, who single handedly arranged for the Lazy Daze folk to have exclusive use of rows 3 and 4, just inside the gate of the South Parking Lot at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. I wonder if that fine gal still lives in Bend, Oregon?

I love LD people.  Place of remembrance is just another example of how truly wonderful LD people are. They show compassion, are knowledgeable and always stress fun.  They do not forget the good ones who made and maintained the greatness of this Group.  I am sure many of you will be part of these memories in the future.  Let’s just hope it is far into the future!!

We are still looking for a LD for just us to enjoy the outdoors.  I know when I see it bells will ring and our LD life will begin.  In the mean time patience is my strategy.

Susan Fain is another LDer gone too soon. She was the former owner of both my LDs, a 1979 TK and a 2003 MB, as well as a dear friend.

The Captain and I met Martha and Bernie before they bought their LD.  We were in Albuquerque for a week and Martha posted here about wanting to see an LD (MB in particular) in person in the hopes of convincing Bernie that this whole LD thing was a very good idea.  We responded, as they lived in Santa Fe.  They came and toured "Wild Thing" inside and out and we visited a a while, answering whatever questions we could.

We were guests in their home in Santa Fe and met up at a restaurant or two over several trips and generally kept in touch for a number of years.  We lost touch when Martha signed off as they had sold their LD (to Ed & Margee) and were focusing on their various arts careers (Martha writing and nature photography and Bernie painting...really really good painting).

Over our dozen or so years of rambling about in "Wild Thing" we met up with several folks, including Ken Fears who was at a neighboring campground in Albuquerque once.   It was always very nice to meet folks who shared a common interest, even as we all came from different places and ideas.

We still miss our "Wild Thing" and our travels...they were great days and we were incredibly lucky that our worst RV disaster of any type, big or small, was the Flying Poop Incident in VT in our very early adventures.   And the lesson of that Incident:  Never wear sandals when emptying a black tank.

Was that at the Balloon Fiesta? What year? I'm presuming that's the same year I also met them.  :-\

If it were the same year, we never made it to NM early enough in the Fall to make the Balloon Festival.  We always went through and visited Albuquerque usually in late October-early November or April-May.  It was always pretty cool (sometimes really cold) and windy.

I say we were fortunate to have known Mark and Martha. We were able to met up with them several times. This was taken at Cap Reef in 2012. They are on the right. Nancy McKenna and her ex are at rear.

We hooked up with Ken Fears several times in several states. OR, CO, NM, etc. A true gentleman, extremely knowledgable and willing to share. He and Dorothy had a special bond as they were both polio survivors. His articles in The Companion are a nice legacy.

A Place of Remembrance sounds like a good iidea.  We have wondered about Paul & Kathleen Smith, the original owners of our 2003 MB.  We haven't had contact with them for several years.  Wonderful couple.

January 2024 …
Life changes
A sad time for the Neighborhood. 😢

I agree, having our mates pass away is unthinkable until it happens.

It's been one year since our close friend Joan Taylor passed away, I miss her daily.
