exterior says Yakima WA
hello fellow LD enthusiasts!

extremely excited to pick up our 2004 26.5 rear kitchen LD day after tomorrow! never owned a vehicle bigger than a car so this is quite the thrilling adventure. grateful this forum exists and hope we cross paths with some of y’all in the future.

first question: does anyone know why the exterior says yakima, wa instead of montclair, ca?

second question: has anyone made their rig wheelchair accessible?

looking forward to being part of this community!

thanks,
angelique and don in portland, or

Welcome to the forum.

If your rig has a Yakima Wa. decal, it was installed by a previous owner, it certainly didn't come from the Mothership that way.
Custom decals are available from many online vendors, you can have one made with whatever you please.

I have never seen a wheel chair accessible LD, man-lifts can be installed for those able to stand.

Making an LD wheelchair accessible would require making the door wider, an extremely serious modification that probably isn't possible with most floorplans.
What exactly do you have in mind?

thanks Larry. good to know about the decal being from a previous owner and not that it was built at a separate factory!

we’re hoping he can have a turny swivel passenger seat installed so that he can transfer in from outside the vehicle. will report back next week once we take it to the mobility specialist whether we have success with that, in case other wheelchair users might be interested.

Angelique and Don,
A passenger swivel chair can be added easily, a couple people have done this, a search in the forum for “swivel passenger” should give you more info.

Some LDs came with one but many didn’t.  Ours (original) swivels and also moves forward and back to give more leg room to swivel past the dog house.
Works better if your model is open behind the passenger seat (eg no dinette or couch right behind the seat) but there are owners who have removed a couch / dinette to replace it with a different style/size/element.

The passenger captain chair can have a swivel base added, but the amount of rotation and wiggle room are going to be very limited.  The Rear Kitchen's forward couch prevents the passenger seat from swiveling rearward. The only floorplan that a swivel seat works well with is the 24' Twin/King
Unfortunately, the E450's passenger seating area is very tight, moving from the chair to the rear of the coach is a near-contortionist routine even for able-bodied persons.

Let us know how this works out.

I’ve added a swivel to the passenger seat in my 2017 TK.   While I’ve gotten the process needed to swivel the seat down to 15 seconds, it’s still a rather elaborate set of precise steps to pivot from front facing to back facing.

My swivel is NOT automatic at all, certainly not useable as a mobility assist device since you cannot swivel while seated as  positioning clearance throughout the swivel would not permit a person’s legs.

Thanks for pointing this out, the passenger seating area is tight for full-size people.

T/Ks with a swivel passenger seat are a nice place for reading, once the seat has been swiveled/

When there was a snorefest going on in the TK back area, I would put a back rest up against the passenger side window and prop my feet up on the driver's seat to read a book or magazine.  This was before electronic brain entertainment devices existed.
