Washing the rig August 16, 2023, 11:37:09 am (I looked for an existing topic, but didn't see one other than "Washing and Waxing " in the Yahoo archive. If there's a better place for this one, or if it can be merged with an existing topic, please go ahead.)While idly browsing Kickstarter yesterday, I ran across a project called "Rubbit" [sic] that's supposed to be a better way to wash a vehicle without hosing it down. The basic kit consists of a sprayer, a bottle of supposedly special detergent concentrate, and a few microfiber cloths. "Spray it on, wipe it off" is the claim. Now, microfiber cloths are a dime a dozen, and I doubt there's really anything special about their detergent. But the sprayer interests me, because it shoots a vertical fan of foam. I haven't seen one with that ability before. But it doesn't look like anything special... so I'm wondering whether anybody has seen a sprayer with those two characteristics: 1) shoots foam 2) in a vertical fan.
Re: Washing the rig Reply #1 – August 16, 2023, 11:53:13 am I found one sprayer on Amazon that looks as if it might work:Amazon.com: M MINGLE Foam Sprayer, Manual Foaming Car Wash Sprayer, Hand... 1 Likes As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.
Re: Washing the rig Reply #2 – August 16, 2023, 12:43:31 pm I use this foam sprayer because it simply hooks up to a garden hose instead of having to deal with a power washer. It creates a nice foam. It can get into all the nooks and crannies and I can just disconnect the bottle holder to use the sprayer as a regular garden hose to rinse off the soap.https://www.amazon.com/Foam-King-Deluxe-Sprayer-Maker/dp/B076GDSRTV/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1CZZQ486ABVA9&keywords=griots%2Bhose&qid=1692203831&sprefix=griots%2Bhose%2Caps%2C76&sr=8-5&th=1I use Griot's brilliant finish foam soap with great results and I follow it up with Griot's ceramic coat and wash. No waxing hassle and it beads water great with minimal effort and nice shine! I use a microfiber cloth with bucket to get the grit on the cab portion of the rig. I use a long brush to get the house of the rig after foaming it down. Safe on the paint and does a good job.https://www.amazon.com/Griots-Garage-10866-Brilliant-Finish/dp/B00PA2LMVY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=NL624CXB0EZ7&keywords=griots+brilliant+finish+car+wash&qid=1692204049&s=automotive&sprefix=griots+bril%2Cautomotive%2C77&sr=1-1https://www.amazon.com/Griots-Garage-10866-Brilliant-Finish/dp/B00PA2LMVY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=NL624CXB0EZ7&keywords=griots+brilliant+finish+car+wash&qid=1692204049&s=automotive&sprefix=griots+bril%2Cautomotive%2C77&sr=1-1https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095KY1G8D?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder-t1_k0_1_5&=&crid=Z7KV5QMOJ0XO&=&sprefix=griotIf you have an Advance Auto Parts/Reilly's nearby it is typically cheaper to buy in person in store. 2 Likes As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.

Re: Washing the rig Reply #4 – August 16, 2023, 08:28:16 pm "I use this foam sprayer because it simply hooks up to a garden hose instead of having to deal with a power washer."It sounds as if that method works well for you, and thanks for the links. However, I should have emphasized that what interested me about the Rubbit kit, and the use case I'm looking at, is washing a rig without using a water hookup. As a full-timer and frequent boondocker, that's what I'd like to be able to do. 3 Likes

Re: Washing the rig Reply #6 – August 18, 2023, 09:20:03 am Kristin, it's on order, but I screwed up and had it sent to Arizona (I'm in South Dakota doing jury duty). Arrgghh! I'll post an update once I get it and try it out. I'm still trying to decide what to spray with it. The Rubbit detergent claims that you can spray it on and then wipe it off, with (this is the key) no rinsing needed. I need to find something like that.
Re: Washing the rig Reply #7 – August 18, 2023, 09:20:12 am Waterless Car WashI use Aero Cosmetics Wash Wax All. Been using it for almost 10 years. My method is to do a full water wash once or twice a year. Then periodly (if that's a word) do a spray of Aero - maybe monthly depending on my energy and weather.glennew editAnother car waterless review 1 Likes
Re: Washing the rig Reply #8 – August 18, 2023, 12:21:25 pm Thanks very much for the information, Glen! After reading those reviews, I'm going to take your advice and buy the Aero Cosmetic Wash Wax All product. I do remember seeing that recommended in the Yahoo Lazy Daze group many years ago.I won't have the "Mingle" foam sprayer until I return to Arizona in November, but I'll use the Wash Wax All hand sprayers meanwhile. I'll post an update in a few months, once I get the foam sprayer. It should cover a much larger area than the hand sprayers that come with the Wash Wax All bottles, so it ought to make application go faster. Re: Washing the rig Reply #9 – August 18, 2023, 12:40:37 pm I use the following on recommendation of a fellow that has a contract for washing Airforce One when it is in Southern California (he does not wash Airforce One with this method!)Add 1-2 Oz of this concentrate to a couple gallons of water in a bucket. Amazon.com: Optimum No Rinse Wash and Shine - ONR Car Wash, New Formula...Absorb cleaning fluid & gently scrub a four to five foot square area of vehicle with a sponge - I like this one as it has lasted four years washing all of our vehicles. Amazon.com: Optimum Big Red Sponge - Original BRS - Large Car Wash Sponge,...I also store the cleaning liquid in a bucket with the false bottom below, sealing with a lid. I can use the same bucket of fluid several times before changing. This false bottom allows sediment to settle to bottom of bucket avoiding contact with sponge while washing. Amazon.com: VIKING Automotive Bucket Insert Grit Trap for Car Wash and...Dry with a microfiber towel (I use three or four for the coach). 3 Likes
Re: Washing the rig Reply #10 – August 22, 2023, 10:51:42 pm Speaking of washing the rig, any tips for cleaning out the bugs that have accumulated in the crevice between the windshield and overhead cab?
Re: Washing the rig Reply #11 – August 22, 2023, 11:47:15 pm My low tech tool for cleaning that area is a stiffer bristle long handle broom with a towel soaked in car wax/wash wrapped around the end of the broom. And presto … tiz clean. Hope this helps. 1 Likes

With one exception. The bug buster pad is not friendly to most car's clear coat. It badly scratched one of our cars. I did use it on an older car. But that car's paint was in generally good condition. The damage can be buffed out but that reduces the thickness of a clear coat. The Wash/Wax (blue stuff) worked very well and the mark remover (pink stuff) was incredible at removing the black streaks and most bug stains. I used the above mentioned pad only on glass after that. It did a great job of removing baked on bugs. If you purchase the kit it comes with a telescoping arm that is very strong. There is really nothing quite like that arm on the market. I am 5-6 and could wash most of the cabover from infant of the engine hood without getting on a stool. A one or two step stool allowed me complete access up to the top of the cabover. 3 Likes
Re: Washing the rig Reply #13 – September 02, 2023, 06:43:17 pm I want to thank everyone who recommended Wash Wax All. I bought a couple of bottles from Amazon Amazon.com: Aero Cosmetics Wet or Waterless Car Wash Wax 32 fl. oz Aircraft... and a pack of cheap ($15.00 for thirty) microfiber cleaning towels from Walmart, and today was the first time I had a chance to try it out. It works great!I did about a quarter of my Airstream--well, the parts I could reach; I need to get up on my ladder to do some of the upper areas--and I'm extremely pleased with the results. I did windows (one glass, one plastic) too, and they look beautiful. My only complaint about it is that the fruity perfume smell is rather strong; but that will dissipate. The important thing is that I was able to do this in a remote boondock in the Rockies, and I used no water! That's exactly what I was looking for when I started this thread. So thanks again for the suggestion, folks. edited by RonB to correct that first link for Andy 4 Likes As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.

Re: Washing the rig Reply #15 – September 03, 2023, 12:51:10 pm Hi Andy; Joel Wiley set me on to Washwaxall a year or so ago, It is a great bug cleaner also. I buy it by the gallon now, since I can store it. The smell isn't too bad and does dissipate quickly. Repeated use increases the shine, and it is easier and quicker to use after the first use. I was trying to build up some stamina so if you remember 'wax on/wax off; Karate Kid' I'd go out an hour before dusk/sunset and spray WashWaxAll and also use this top coat Meguiar's Ultimate Insane Shine Paint Glosser, Simply Spray on and Wipe Off.... It did help cover some sun faded streaks on the under fiberglass skirt, and the coach door. So with a 24 year old, never indoors rig, it can still shine up pretty well. I find the WWaxA works really well on the acrylic sink and counters inside, and even on mirrors. My year 'TK has the extra large mirror on the bathroom/divider door. The vinyl inserts on the doors and 'woodgrain' paneling also benefit. (the smell inside dissipates, I don't live in it). (I have no commercial connection to any of these products) RonB 2 Likes
