correct fuel pump for Onan 4000 Microquiet generator?

I know there's a lot of cheapo pumps on Amazon, but I think this one is genuine Cummins, at $185:  Cummins 149231101 Onan Fuel Pump.  Can anyone confirm this indeed is the correct pump before I buy it?   I originally came across this link for the pump somewhere in the LDO archives, but can't find it now!

Amazon.com: Cummins 149231101 Onan Fuel Pump : Automotive

Amazon says it can't be shipped to CA, but since I'll be in Seattle next month visiting a friend, I can have it sent there.

Thanks!

Hi Daryl;  I think that Cummins pump is for a car or tractor. As such it has to be approved by the Ca. Air resources Board. It isn't and cant be shipped here.  Those other cheapo pumps need to list Onan (bought by Cummins)  MicroQuiet 4000 (4KW) generator.  I'm guessing This one:  Fuel Pump for Onan 4000 RV Cummins Generator 4KW Microlite MicroQuiet 15-25...   It doesn't say whether it can be shipped to California, but it does say it is located in Ontario Ca., so it is already here.  I can't believe anybody would pay $185 for a pump, that shouldn't cost more than $20-$35.
(my story, I was removing a wire from my genuine Onan start switch, and the pin pulled out of the switch. Bought a new switch for $60, came with a panel and wiring harness. I tossed both of those items. The switch itself was made in Mexico, and several places had just the switch for anywhere between $10 and $20, as long as it had a red LED instead of an orange light(?) bulb).
You should have a manual, or check the label on your generator, for the year and exact model that you have.  Are you going to carry this part as a spare, or is your present generator not running because of a bad pump?     RonB

thank, Ron!
Yes, I've been having trouble with the gen beginning about 3 weeks ago:  it runs for anywhere from 5-30 mins then sputters & shuts down.  First time it blinked a 36 code.  Subsequently, no codes/no red light flashing at all.  Took it into a shop in San Luis Obispo last Thursday, and it ran fine for five(!) hours under AC load and didn't die while at the shop (of course). I got it back into storage the next day, and sure enough it shut down after 8 mins.   Anyway, I finally got an appt for service in the Bay Area on Aug 2.  My thought is if I already have the fuel pump (and I already have a fuel filter) there wouldn't be any extra delay waiting for that part if they didn't have one.  From what I've read on LDO (especially Don Malpas' recent issue!) and others' opinions (hi, Larry!)  strongly suspect fuel pump.   It's 16 years old so couldn't hurt to replace even it turns out that's not the culprit.    I forgot to take a picture of the white label on the gen, so when I'm back at storage area (50 miles away) next week, I'll get that info & make sure this E11007 you've linked is the pump I need.  Sure would rather pay $25 instead of $200  ;)
Interesting the big difference in price:  when in SLO last week I stopped by the Cummins dealer & they confirmed they had the fuel pump for it, almost $200!     Unfortunately they had no availability to look at mine, until at least August.

Hey Daryl,

My fuel pump went down recently when on a trip. A relative in Texas gave me the contact information for a guy in Texas who he swears by for generator repair. Fred of keepmygeneratoralive.com , 512-940-5301. He will talk to you over the phone to help diagnose your generator problems. Really nice guy

I had already figured out it was the pump for my generator, but in talking to him he told me that there were no OEM pumps available anywhere. He did say that the OEM's were overpriced and that most of what you get on Amazon were pretty much junk. he did have some alternatives that he said would work. Sorry, I can't remember what they were, but I decided to wait to get an OEM pump not wanting to take the chance of a knock off pump failing on this years trip to Baja (fingers crossed and all things go according to plan) or anywhere else for that matter!

Coincidentally, today I was just looking to find the correct pump to get the generator repaired when I saw your post.

Good luck with everything and keep us posted.

If you  have not had the pump installed by the Pomo GTG, I can assist you in installing the pump and filter, it isn’t a big project.

You're the best, Larry, and I'll take you up on that generous offer to have the chance to learn how to do this  -- will start working on getting the fuel pump!!   :-)

And thank you to both Rons for all the info!

Just an opinion but the Onan pump doesn’t last any better than the $24 one, maybe even worse. I just put the cheap one in after the previous cheap one failed after four years. Certainly a PIA to replace.

I had an Onan pump fail after a few months so I don’t go there anymore.

Some have a better argument for the $385 carburetor rather than the $40 one.

If it fails within the next year I’ll let you know.

I ended up ordering fuel pump directly from Cummins for my 4KY K series (part #A064S966)--- $208 w/free shipping.
Fingers crossed it lasts longer than in Harry's experience!      I was at  LD storage last Tuesday and gen  ran for 30 mins (under AC load) before shutting down.   On June 16, it only ran 8 mins, then shut down.  So it's all over the map.  Interestingly, no flashing red light/error codes at all after it shuts down.    Hoping the new pump & filter resolves the issue-- otherwise next thing to rule out would be the carb and/or the control board?!?
Thanks everybody!!

Hi Daryl;  My experience as a technician, is to keep the parts you replace until you find out what was causing the problem.  My bet is the control board heating up with a bad connection inside, but I don't work on Onan generators, (until I have to)  so I'm still curious.  Intermittent problems with changing symptoms are the hardest to troubleshoot.  RonB
