Twin King Paper towel holder
In our Twin King, LD put a clock in the perfect spot for hanging a paper towel holder.

I'd like to remove the clock, then screw in a paper towel holder up under the cupboard.  There is a gap of about 1" between the bottom of the cupboard and the interior "floor" of the cupboard, which appear hollow.  Both surfaces appear to be made of about 3/16" plywood.

Anyone know whether there are any wires in there?

Thanks

Maybe there are wires..
A self drilling screw would be an option as it is relatively blunt and less likely to puncture the insulation.
A pointed sheet metal or wood screw is more likely to puncture insulation.

Not sure how much this helps…we did this in ours (26.5 RB). The one we used (link below) came with short-enough screws that I felt safe installing.

Amazon.com - SITANES Paper Towel Holder-Single Hand Operable Wall Mount...

I highly recommend this one, has remained rock solid  in 1500+ miles of driving, and it has a “ratcheting” or damper function. There is zero chance ours will unroll during transit and yet it’s easy to advance it to grab a paper towel.

Here’s the photo:

Ok, if I am looking at your pictures correctly, you are talking about the wall between the kitchen and the shower stall?

In our 89 TK, no wires in that entire wall but plumbing and wiring both below the countertop level (shower comes from bathroom sink faucet).

You can take the kitchen drawers out (or open cabinets - I think they changed the layout) and see what is back at that wall, even up into the wall some using your phone camera).

Edit:  I reread and you wanted to connect into the cabinet bottom?
You can take up the floor of the cabinet bottom to double check - it is typically fastened with nails.  Our older TK has no electricity there (nothing electrical in that cabinet area or the other side of the wall in the bathroom, ceiling items not run thru there in ours) - but looking inside that cavity is the best way to confirm.

I don't know Twin Kings and the picture does tell me what is on the other side of the wall.

I would not wall mount. Ripping towels off over time would surely rip the holder from the fiberboard wall.
I would mount under the cabinet. You are right, it's two thin sheets, hollow between. I would through drill and use small machine bolts with a oversize washer in the cabinet to spread the load. Just cut the bolt to extend enough the capture the washer and nut. And file down any sharp edges.

You might consider a vertical holder. I have always been amazed at things like that to stay in place while driving. Maybe lock it down with dual lock tape on the counter.

All of the wiring (monitor panel wiring) in that cabinet is contained in the channel shown at the top of your first picture.  If they were to run wires in the bottom of the cabinet they would keep it to the front or back of the cabinet, clamping them to the support structure so they would not move around.

Kendall, can you please confirm that by "channel" you mean the (approximately) 2" high x 4" deep enclosed compartment that runs along the upper back of the lower cabinet?  See picture.

I was thinking someone might answer that indeed, the wires for the monitor panel are under the floor of the shelf.  But you say otherwise.  Can you think of why any wires/plumbing would be in that space under the cabinet floor?  (I don't know what they would go to if not the monitor panel.)

I guess another question is, if there are no wires/plumbing in there, why did LD elevate the cabinet floor, seemingly leaving a 1" void between the cabinet floor and the underside where I want to mount the paper towel holder?  Lowering the cabinet bottom would have made the cabinet a bit roomier.

Thanks,
Alan

Alan,
Yes, the 2" by 4" channel contains the monitor panel wiring.  Below is a picture with the bottom of the channel removed.  It's hard to see but the second picture shows the wire bundle clamped to the upper rear of the channel.  The third picture shows the padded end panel removed and the monitor panel wiring routed into the channel.  I had pried the bottom off the channel so that I could run additional wiring for a custom monitor panel and heater control switches (forth picture).  I use small wood screws to secure it back in place.
I hope this helps

Thanks for sharing those photos.  I can see from the "end panel removed" picture that no wiring goes to the generator panel from the space under the floor of the cupboard.

Using a stud-finder, I see nothing in the space under the cupboard floor.  Unless someone else chimes with with other info, I'm planning to mount a paper towel holder there using wood screws.  I'll post pictures and let anyone interested know whether I sink a screw into any wiring/plumbing.

Thanks,
Alan

Rimrider got it right , pull the bottom of the cabinet floor to see what, if anything , is hidden. These “hidden” channels can be used to run all sorts of wiring.

Hi Alan;  Your 'TK is a world apart from my 1999 'TK, but in mine there is no wiring in the bottom portion of that shelf. Many of those hollow bottomed shelves do have, and at the time that mine was built, recessed lighting fixtures along with wiring.
Kendall has a 2019 and looks to be the same as your 2021. The display panel at the end of the cabinet does have it's wiring running in that channel suspended under the interior shelf.  You should be in the clear to drill holes in the bottom piece of 3/16" plywood.  You will have to judge if that will be strong enough to support pulling on the roll mechanism while removing a sheet of paper towel.  The idea of double stick adhesive to spread the load, with short screws to locate the holder and support the adhesive in hot weather sounds like a good compromise.  You don't want any screws intruding into the storage floor of the cabinet.
I chose a white plastic dispenser, one sheet at a time type, and put it in at a cross angle in the back corner above the sink. It doesn't appear to be available anymore.  (that was 23 years ago!).  This might work better:   Amazon.com - simpletome ONE Hand Tear Paper Towel Holder Under Cabinet...
I wanted the towel holder inconspicuous and out of the way.  The location of the clock was (and still is) more visible from the bed at night, and from the only sitting area at the rear dinette.  Also while cooking the clock is a ready reference. The microwave clock is only useful with hookups which I rarely have.
Before you drill permanent holes in the wood, you might want to try 'Command Loc' temporary mounting to try out different locations.  RonB

"Unless someone else chimes in with other info, I'm planning to mount a paper towel holder there using wood screws."

The problem I encountered was the slim thickness of the cabinet bottom. After the screws pulled loose I augmented the mounting location with a larger backing plate, also screwed to the cabinet bottom.  ::)

As stated earlier, we use a vertical counter top holder. It goes nowhere and gets the job done for us without drilling a bunch of holes.

Hi Alan,  with another way of attaching the towel holder you could increase the volume of that cabinet by lowering that floor piece.  Not much gain for a lot of work.
I can't vouch for the construction of this particular cabinet, but I find many that the inside bottom panels were attached with small staples. possibly a small amount of glue. If it were me, I would lift out the inside panel, permanently remove the staples and fill those holes with wood filler paste.  Install a substantial pine piece with glue inside the bottom shelf, to afford a good grip for short screws up from the towel holder.  The inside shelf can be re-installed with short small flathead screws, around the edeges, allowing easier access in the future.
I did that operation on the inside of the above (overhead) vanity cabinet. Inside that hollow space I put in a 4 USB port (brown), and a flush mounted 2" LED light with pwm dimmer. It already had a 110 VAC outlet.  So that is my defacto charging station for phones, watches, battery powered flashlights, my toothbrush and other items wanting a USB charge overnight.  The light is for finding the USB sockets with the proper orientations. The light also looks nice, and throws a soft light near the entry. I have 3 cats that are impediments to sure footing at night.
I've considered doing that same trick with the cabinet above the clock.  Having a drop down shelf, hidden hinge at the back, to store my small laptop when it isn't being used, and where it can charge.  Only another 'TK owner can appreciate how hard it is to store small items in a fully loaded 'TK.  RonB

Excellent idea, Ron. The only reason I did not go in that direction is my reluctance to de-construct the woodwork! And had I done it your way I'd probably have gone with bolts instead of screws.  ;D

Done!

Per this picture, I went with the simpletome model, as recommended.  I did not use the stick-on sheet.

The simpletone came with holes for only 2 screws, which I was uncomfortable with given the thin cabinet bottom.  I countersunk two additional holes in the simpletome metal base, so it is held up by four flathead screws instead of two.  I used screws that were just long enough to go though the base and the 3/16" plywood bottom of the cabinet, hoping to minimize any chance of contacting wiring.

Just returned from a web long trip.  Very happy with the results.
