Phone Jack Question April 19, 2023, 11:34:47 am Our ‘09 LD has a telephone jack under the dinette table as most everyone knows. Has anyone found any value for that existing wiring? If not, I’m thinking of removing it and replacing it with a solid wall plate.

The prominence of cellphones no doubt put an end to the need for such wiring.- John

Re: Phone Jack Question Reply #4 – April 19, 2023, 02:15:15 pm "...the Mothership must have abandoned the idea of a telephone connection..."In the long long ago some RV Parks provided landline connections on site, ostensibly for long term guests. It was a short lived feature with the advent of cell phones! At the other end of that phone connection under the dinette you will find an exterior connection, most likely near the utility connectors on the driver's side. I used to carry a phone set and a length of phone cable for just that one time need. Never happened! And NO, it is not a 12v outlet!

I have not seen this for a couple of decades. As you suggested, cell phones and WiFI eliminated the need.Larry
Re: Phone Jack Question Reply #6 – April 19, 2023, 02:44:41 pm Hi Margee or Ed; The phone wire is too fine to support a possible up to 10 Amps at 12 Vdc. It is just for phone signals. To use the new jack, you'll need 12Vdc. There should be a nearby place to connect to 12v. I used a Magnedyne 4 port connector. Two for watches, two for phones at night. The green pilot light was too bright, I painted some white over it to tone it down. Amazon.com: Magnadyne WC-USB-W White Wall Mount 4 USB Charging Ports (White... Without the 12v 'cigarette' lighter portion, the potential current needed is much less. Any 12v circuit you can find will work. Re: Phone Jack Question Reply #7 – April 19, 2023, 04:25:58 pm Bottom line … the telephone jack and wiring are useless. Converting to 12V isn’t on any of my To-Do lists for our RV. So I’m going to plate it with something better than a phone outlet.

Re: Phone Jack Question Reply #10 – April 26, 2023, 06:30:18 am Ed, that hidden away telephone jack must have really been bothering you!😂 I wish my annual project list had been completed enough to to include covering up the phone jack. What did you do about the outside phone connection? 😁Steve K. (Still wondering when I will be taking the cover off our rig. We actually had some snow falling two days ago...)

And Question #2 about the outside phone connection … not a thing. But it’s comforting to know it’s the last useless item on our LD. 😜On second thought, maybe our Garmin GPS is also useless on occasion!
